Phew! What a busy month! December at St. Lucy’s is always such fun.

We started this festive month with our annual Christmas Fayre. There were lots of stalls selling all manner of wonderful cakes and crafts and of course, lots of fun things for the children to do too. Not least Santa’s grotto which proved to be very popular. Thank you very much to all who attended and to local businesses for their kind donations for our raffle. The staff, pupils and Parent council are all very appreciative.

On the 13th and 14th December we put on a wonderful show for all the mums, dads, grannies and grandads to see. Our nursery and Primary 1 to 3’s “Nearly No Nativity” was a great success, despite its name. And the audience thoroughly enjoyed singing along and tapping their toes to the Christmas songs performed by Primary 4 and 5. Finally, our senior pupils from Primary 6 and 7 reminded us about the meaning of Christmas through their poignant tale of how a little boy shared his Christmas present with another child who was less fortunate, set during World War II. Thank you to all of you who managed to make it along on a very wintery evening and afternoon. The boys and girls of St. Lucy’s would also like to thank Mrs. Ewart for helping them learn their songs and for making it lots of fun.

At the end of that week we had another celebration. As with every year, we had a fun day to commemorate St. Lucy’s day, the patron saint of our school. This year we had a movie day, complete with cinema ticket and popcorn.

Finally, lots of fun was had at our Christmas parties. We danced with our friends and played party games before enjoying some party food. The Nursery, and Primary 1-3’s also got a present from a very special visitor. Can you guess who it was…? That’s right, it was none other than Santa Claus!  We had lots of fun and were sure to tell Santa what was on our Christmas list.
Just like the song says, the boys and girls of St. Lucy’s truly wish it could be Christmas every day. The adults are not so sure though, they are all exhausted and need a Christmas holiday!

Fantastic news, the hard work and effort of pupils, staff and families of St Lucy’s Gardening Club has certainly paid off! The total amount raised to date stands at £1517

St Lucy’s celebrated Halloween in style this year! Our wonderful nursery and infant pupils put on a fantastic Halloween Parade – the costumes this year were the best yet!! Our senior pupils raised the bar this year with their ‘design a vegetable’ competition entries…well done to all those who entered.  As if all that wasn’t enough the week was rounded of with our Halloween Disco organised by our wonderful Parent Council! Thanks to everyone who helped make this years’ celebrations spookily splendid!!!

The children and staff from St. Lucy’s Gardening Club took part in a sponsored walk on Sunday 29th October to help raise funds for a new greenhouse.  We all met at the church and our walk took us to the Glen, through Cumbernauld House and then back to the church where everyone enjoyed a much needed drink, cup of tea and biscuits.  Some of us decided to try out our Halloween costumes.  A fun day was had by all.  So far we have raised over £800 with lots more still to be added to the total – watch this space for a final total!!

This morning we held a charity coffee morning in aid of MacMillan cancer charity.  Children baked or bought cakes to sell to Parents and Grandparents who were invited along to our school hall.  The children in Primary 7 helped out by serving the hot drinks and selling the baked goods.  Fun was had by all and we raised over £200.  The children also got to eat any cakes that were leftover which made the day even more fun!
