Enrolment for Primary 1
Registration of those children due to begin school for the first time time takes place in January of each year. Dates and times are advertised in national and local press. An announcement will also appear in the Church Bulletin, local shops, nurseries and libraries.
Parents should take their child to the appropriate local primary school during enrolement week at the time designated by the school. Birth certificates and current council tax notice must be produced.
Most children attend their local school. However, parents are entitled to request a place for their child in any other school under the management of the Education Authority. Such a request is referred to as a Placing Request. Information for parents about the enrolment of children in schools, and giving details of placing request procedures (including early entry requests), may be obtained from any school or from Learning & Leisure Services.
Parents who wish to defer entry for their child to primary school and who wish to apply for an additional year of part-time nursery education should register their child for school as described above and complete the deferred entry application form.
A programme of visits and activities is offered for all enrolled pupils prior to them starting school.
Parents’ right of choice of school is explained when children are registered and on explanatory leaflet given during enrolement.
Parents wishing to enrol children throughout the school year should contact the school to make an appointment.
Enrolment for High School
The primary schools in an area are associated with one single high school and pupils normally transfer from the primary school to it’s associated secondary school between the ages of 11 and a half and 12 and a half years.
Your child will be given a form for you to complete to indicate your preferred choice of high school.
You may also make a placing request for your child to attend a secondary school other than the one associated with the primary school.
Language and Communication Support Centre
Placements within our Language and Communication Support Centre are allocated at an allocation panel and applications are required to be submitted from pupils’ current provision.
