ARRANGEMENTS FOR AUGUST 2020 – UPDATE FROM NORTH LANARKSHIRE COUNCIL

We have received information from North Lanarkshire Council this afternoon, which gives more of an idea of what things will look like in August when schools reopen and children arrive back.  We are very much looking forward to our school re-opening and we are working hard, in partnership with North Lanarkshire, to prepare for this.

Throughout the Summer Holiday, there will be further information regarding our re-opening in August.  We are aware that there will be some anxiety around days children are attending, how this fits with work schedules and what health and safety will look like.

Mr Thomas has been working (along with the Senior Leadership Team) with staff from NLC to prepare a recovery plan.  There will be a lot of detail circulated about this in the coming weeks.  This information will be given out at appropriate times so as not to overload our Parents/Carers and to ensure that everyone has the right information at the right time.  In the meantime, please follow the link below to the NLC Website to see a letter from Derek Brown, Executive Director of Education & Families.  This give the current position, as agreed by the Council and lets you know what August will look like.

Further information about the exact days your child will be attending school will be given out next week.  It will be an impossible task to accommodate all requests and all circumstances.  We have over 260 families and a roll of over 400.  Please be patient.  We ask for your support and co-operation.  We promise to work with you to support you and your family in return.

Please note, that we will ensure siblings who attend St. John Paul II attend school on the same days.  From there, we will look at working groups for Literacy, so that we can maximise Learning & Teaching time.  It will not be possible to ensure children are allocated days with best friends.

The official return date for children will be Wednesday 12th August 2020.  Tuesday 11th will be an INSET DAY for staff only.

Information for P7 Leavers

We are all so sad that we won’t be able to celebrate our amazing Primary 7 pupils leaving us in the way we usually would. Their year was cut short, but they did us all so proud in the way they dealt with everything. So we’re arranging a few things to hopefully help them to feel as special as they should.

  1. Yearbook. We have managed to collate their memories into a fantastic yearbook. This will be a gift from the school and we will let you know when it is available.
  2. Leavers’ Mass. We would always thank God for our wonderful time together during a Mass of Thanksgiving. Father Morris has very kindly offered to celebrate this for us online. It will be on Monday 22nd June at 2pm, on the St Gabriel’s Webcam Page. Please join us if you can.
  3. Hoodies. We are trying to secure a Leavers’ Hoodie order. These hoodies cost £13 for children’s sizes and £14 for adults sizes. In the current social climate, we are aware payment for these may prove difficult for some. If you are able to make a donation towards the cost, this would be gratefully received, but if you are not please don’t worry.  Orders need to be placed by 5pm tomorrow (16th June). Please use the form below, call the school office, or email Miss Agnew at gw09agnewlouise01@glow.sch.uk

Sizes available –  11-12, 12-13, Adult XS, Adult Small, Adult Medium

Colours available – Arctic White, Candyfloss Pink, Deep Black, Fire Red, Hot Pink, Jade           Green, Kelly Green, Purple, Royal Blue, Sky Blue, Heather Grey, Sun Yellow

Please share this information with anyone who may need it! Thanks for your support.

CNHS Transition Update

Further to yesterday’s information from Cardinal Newman regarding the transition process for our P7 Pupils, we have received more information today. There will be an opportunity for our P7 pupils to have a visit to CNHS on Friday 19th June at 9.30am. The children can be taken along to the school and will have a chance to see inside the building and meet some staff. It will last about an hour. Children should be dropped off at the main reception and collected from the car park – there will be CNHS staff there to help. If you can’t make it, don’t worry, all relevant information will be sent to you.

Please click below to read the full letter from Mrs Murray.

New Primary 1 Transitions

We know some children were disappointed that we couldn’t offer a visit to school next week. We were disappointed too because we would rather see everyone face to face. So we’ve been thinking of how to do this.

We would like to offer those children a (socially distanced) visit to meet their teacher and have a wee chat with them before the summer holidays so we are inviting you to school either on Monday 22nd June 10am -11am or Tuesday 23rd June 1pm -2pm. You will be able to collect a little booklet to complete during the summer holidays and a story to read together. Our P1 teachers will meet you outside the same way we gave out our home learning packs to the rest of the school. Your teachers are looking forward to seeing you on one of these days.

Please share this information with anyone you know who is starting.

P7 TRANSITION INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM CARDINAL NEWMAN HIGH SCHOOL

Dear Parent,
We have been consulting with parents and partners to develop a model for our transition programme this year which takes account of all current health and safety guidelines and measures.  Unfortunately, we have come to the conclusion that this does not allow us to deliver our normal programme of events as we would wish, but we are able to deliver a reduced transition model for this year only.
Transition Events to Date have included:
* Transition Evening in Cardinal Newman High School in January 2020
* Cardinal Newman High School Roadshow at each of the associated primaries in February 2020
* Cardinal Newman High Staff delivering numeracy, literacy and health and wellbeing activities in associated primaries
* Transition Pack for every P7 child coming to Cardinal Newman High School
* Microsoft Teams Meetings with Secondary Teachers and P7 children
* Cardinal Newman High School subject department projects and challenges to all P7 pupils via Twitter
* Wizard of Oz Library Transition Project from Cardinal Newman High School Librarian
If you would like any further information on any of the above please contact Mrs Murray at Cardinal Newman High School.
Monday 15 June – Wednesday 24 June 2020
We have invited a small group of P7 pupils who would normally take part in our “enhanced transition” programme.  They will come to the school for a brief visit at a specified time on a particular date to ensure we adhere to social distancing rules.   These children have been identified by associated primaries.
We will provide more information about our return to school in August when it becomes available.
