The Parent Council will be selected for a minimum of two years, after which members may put themselves forward for re-selection if they wish. After the initial two year period the Parent Council will review and consider requirements for membership. All parents of children at the school can take part in the selection process by volunteering to be a member of the Parent Council. In the event that the number of volunteers exceeds the number of places set out in the constitution, members will be selected randomly from the names submitted. Anyone not selected to be a member of the Parent Council may be offered the opportunity to be part of any sub-groups set up by the Parent Council.

Members of Parent Councils, on a voluntary basis, may also have an advisory role in decisions on placing requests by parents in respect of those situations where the number of placing requests for a particular school or for a particular stage in a particular school exceeds the number of places available.
