Monday 18th January

St Bartholomew’s will be starting a ‘cashless’ system shortly .It seems like so long ago that parents and carers were informed about this, although the Christmas holidays have a lot to answer for! However, it is hoped that cards will be sorted out today, ready for D-Day tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

All of our wonderful pupils are back into the swing of things and have been working hard since their return after the holidays, long may this continue.

Our weekly prayer service at 8.50am continues every Tuesday morning and many thanks to our ‘Faith in Action’ group for organising this.

Friday 15th January 2016

It was lovely to have Bishop Toal in St Bartholomew’s yesterday morning. He spent time talking to Primary 6 and 7 about the sacrament of confirmation and also took the opportunity to visit each classroom to meet the teachers and pupils.

Our whole-school assembly takes place as usual this morning. Watch out for pupil of the week and trophy winners later today. There’s been great work and behaviour right across the school this week, so I think teachers will be struggling to choose today’s certificate winners (not a bad problem to have!).

One of our Primary 3 pupils was very keen yesterday to show off a trophy she was awarded for being part of the best Girls Brigade squad. I promised I’d post a photo on today’s blog.image
Finally, my days at headquarters are slightly different next week. I will be out of school on Monday and Tuesday and back in St Bart’s Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Thursday 14th January 2016

I’m very much looking forward to being back in St Bart’s this morning. It’s been an interesting two days in headquarters, but I’ve missed the buzz of the school and being around the children. Many thanks to Mrs Bolland, Mrs MacFarlane and Mrs McLean for stepping up to their acting posts in my absence.

We are delighted to welcome Bishop Toal to St Bartholomew’s today. He will be visiting the school this morning to meet those Primary 6 and 7 pupils who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday 4th February. A very warm welcome, Bishop Toal!

Primary 1 registrations continue this afternoon. Tomorrow will be the final day to register your child for starting school in August 2016, so please ensure you pop into St Bartholomew’s between 1.30 – 3.00pm today or tomorrow to complete the relevant paperwork.

Wednesday 13th January

I had a wonderful first day as acting Head Teacher- St Bartholomew’s pupils are truly the best! Mrs McLean also reported a great day and I know that she thoroughly enjoyed her ‘lunch duty’ experience today. I am sure that Mrs McFarlane will have a very similar experience tomorrow. Mr Young and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate both Mrs McLean and Mrs McFarlane on their success at Monday’s interview for their Acting Principal Teacher posts, it is very well deserved.

I would also like to congratulate Mr Young on his new post at Headquarters and know that he will make a tremendous contribution to the education of all our young people in North Lanarkshire Council. There will certainly be a few eager little faces on Thursday!

An important date for your diary is Monday the 25th of January as our whole school photograph will take place that day. I know that our boys and girls are always smart and a real credit to parents and carers, although a wee bit of advance warning never goes amiss to give teeth an extra polish for all of those dazzling smiles.

Tuesday 12th January 2016

A huge welcome to everyone from Mrs Bolland, on my first day as Acting Head Teacher! I am looking forward to a Tuesday and Wednesday when I will be keeping an extra close eye on all the boys and girls in St Bartholomew’s and helping out parents and carers with any issues they may have.

Please be advised that Primary 1 enrolments will continue this afternoon from 1.30pm until 3pm.It has been wonderful to see some of our own nursery boys and girls as well as some new faces that will be wearing the St Bartholomew’s uniform very shortly.

We have also heard the fantastic news that Liam and Patrick from Primary 5/6 have experienced great success at a recent Karate tournament in Dumfries – well done boys.

Monday 11th January 2016

Registrations for new Primary 1 pupils take place every afternoon this week, from 1.30 – 3.00pm. Please note that your child’s birth certificate and a proof of address (eg. a council tax bill) are required for registration. If you know of any relatives, friends or neighbours who have children eligible to start school in August, please could you bring the above arrangements to their attention. Thank you for your help.

Tomorrow will be my first day working in headquarters and Mrs Bolland’s first day as acting Head Teacher. Mrs Bolland will be based in the Head Teacher’s office on a Tuesday and Wednesday. She will also be writing the blog on these two days… a wee break from my daily blethering!

Friday 8th January 2016

We’ve reached the end of the first week in no time at all, and what a great start to the term it’s been! We have our first whole-school assembly of 2016 this morning and our proud certificate and trophy winners will be posted on the website later today.

Primary 1 enrolments take place every afternoon next week. Full details will be posted on Monday’s blog.

Finally, some of our Primary 6 pupils are participating in a karate tournament in my hometown of Dumfries today. I’m looking forward to hearing how they get on when they return to school on Monday. Good luck, boys!

Thursday 7th January 2016

The new term got off to a super start yesterday, with the boys and girls returning to school with their usual enthusiasm, positive attitude, good behaviour and great work ethic. Well done to you all!

As outlined in the letter sent to all parents/carers yesterday, I have been asked by Isabelle Boyd, Head of Service, to work in Headquarters two days a week from next Tuesday onwards. I have been carrying out some additional work for the local authority for a number of months and have now been allocated time to develop this further. From 12th January, therefore, I will be out of school every Tuesday and Wednesday; this will allow me to be in St Bartholomew’s at both the beginning and end of the school week.

Mrs Bolland will take up the position of acting Head Teacher on a Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs MacFarlane and Mrs McLean will share the acting Principal Teacher post. Mr T. Dunz, a new member of staff, will teach Primary 4 on a Tuesday and Primary 7 on a Wednesday to allow Mrs McLean and Mrs MacFarlane to carry out their Principal Teacher duties; there will be no disruption to the learning of these two classes.

St Bartholomew’s is in a very settled position this year, with a fantastic team of highly competent teachers, and I have absolutely no concerns leaving the school in Mrs Bolland’s very capable hands.
