Friday 6th May 2016

What a quick week it’s been, with the holiday Monday and yesterday’s inservice day. Although various events mean there will be no whole-school assembly today, we’ll still be awarding Pupil of the Week certificates. Keep an eye on the website for this week’s awards.

Primary 4’s community cafe, Cafe Combo, was a huge hit last week. The cafe opens again this afternoon and the boys and girls are looking forward to welcoming guests from the Townhead community, including Mr Glen who used to run the butcher’s shop 20 years ago!

Our Pupil Voice groups meet today. All six groups have lots to talk about and are super-keen to advance their various pieces of work. A wee bird told me that the ‘Impact’ group has received a donation of pens, pencils, etc. and are almost ready to get their stationery shop up and running. Watch this space!

Finally, please remember that the information evening for the Primary 7 York trip takes place this coming Monday at 6.00pm in the Performing Arts Studio.

Wednesday 4th May

We are so lucky at St Bartholomew’s to have such an active after school programme. I sometimes forget how many different clubs and initiatives are going on.Both the Golf and Running after school clubs were on yesterday, where the children were learning new skills in addition to improving their health and wellbeing at the same time!

Just a reminder that the Art after school club will NOT be on today as the team who organise the polling station will need access to the school after 3pm and there are stringent rules surrounding confidentiality.

Talking of after school clubs…a Gardening after school club will be coming to St Bartholomew’s next Wednesday.A few members of our staff will be getting involved and letters will be with you shortly. It might be worth chatting to your child about this to establish where their level of interest lies?

As I was going around the classes yesterday,ย I noticed another trophy on a Primary five pupils’ desk- it was the same one that two of our pupils had with them in the morning.I promised that I’d take a photograph of the trophy and it’s very pleases recipient.Again, it has been awarded from the Boys Brigade for ‘Best Team. Well done!

Tuesday 3rd May

I hope that the children are all very well rested after the long weekend- I know that I am! Just a reminder that the children will not attend school on Thursday as it is an In Service day for staff. I hope the weather is forecast for sunshine .

As always our prayer service is on today and a huge welcome to everyone. It is truly a lovely way to start the day and we are very blessed at St Bartholomew’s to have such a lovely Oratory to celebrate our faith.

I had two ‘beaming’ pupils in my office today…. They had super shiny trophies in their possession from the Boys Brigade. Our pupils won these trophies for ‘best uniform’ and ‘great effort’. Well done boys from all your friends at St Bartholomew’s.

Friday 29th April 2016

There was a lovely atmosphere in the Get Together Room yesterday for Primary 4’s community cafe, ‘Cafe Combo’. The boys and girls spent the morning preparing sandwiches, empire biscuits and strawberry tarts and then gave a warm St Bartholomew’s welcome to their guests in the afternoon. Believe it or not, one of the guests was actually from New Jersey in the United States of America! The children were the perfect hosts and, as you can see from one of the photographs below, even approached washing the dishes with enthusiasm and humour! Well done to you all and many thanks to Mrs McLean, Mrs Ruddy, Mrs Morris and Mrs Early for helping the children with the special event.

As always, keep an eye on the website for this week’s Pupils of the Week, winning House and Cool Class.

Please remember that this coming Monday is a holiday and that the school is also closed to pupils on Thursday 5th due to the Scottish Parliament elections. Have a fantastic long weekend!

Thursday 28th April 2016

I’ll be spending most of today in Primary 1 and am very much looking forward to joining in with the children’s learning.

As part of their preparations for their First Holy Communion in a few weeks time, Primary 4 are running a community cafe today. The boys and girls have been learning that faith can’t simply be about words, but also needs to involve action: living out our Catholic faith in a way which makes a real difference and has a positive impact on others. Primary 4 have invited a variety of groups from the Townhead community to pop along to the school over the coming weeks, with today’s special guests including the Jubilee Group, the St Vincent de Paul Society, the Pray for our School Group, the parish’s readers and Eucharistic Ministers and, of course, Father Doherty. A very warm welcome to St Bartholomew’s! Get ready to be treated like royalty!

Wednesday 27th April

Please remember to pray for our First Communicants who will be celebrating this very important sacrament on Sunday the 15th of May. I know that they will appreciate this kind gesture. Primary four will be organising a ‘Community Cafe’ in aid of their up and coming celebrations and also to raise funds for SCIAF. The St Vincent De Paul group, Eucharistic ministers, Liturgical readers and the ‘Pray for our School ‘ group are all invited to the Community Cafe at 1.30pm. I know that both the children and the various community groups are all really looking forward to it! I might try to pop in for a wee scone…

We have registered our first of many points to come for Beat the Street!! Mrs MacIntyre walked the children to the after school golf club at Lochview Golf Club and managed to pass two ‘ Beat Boxes’ on the way. Could I ask everyone to remember to take their fob with them when out and about and pick up as many points as you can for the school.

Our After school golf club were at the driving range learning how far they could drive the golf balls. They had great success and enjoyed every minute of it. There are another four weeks to go and I’m sure they will be giving Rory McIlroy a run for his money very shortly!

Tuesday 26th April

A new initiative called ‘Beat the Street’ has come to St Bartholomew’s! It’s a real life walking and cycling game that promises to get North Lanarkshire moving. Mrs MacIntyre introduced it to Primary 1,2 & 3 at assembly and I will do the same with Primary 4 to 7. Children have all been given a special green fob and a map that charts all the ‘Beat Boxes’. Please check bags for instructions on how to register on line at; northlan.beatthestreet.me

A reminder to all parents that our Parent Council Meeting is on at 6pm in the staff room tonight- as always, we would encourage everyone to pop along and contribute to any new developments that may be occurring at St Bartholomew’s.

Monday 25th April 2016

Primary 4 pupils are now less than three weeks away from celebrating their First Holy Communion. The boys and girls have been preparing for the sacrament both in class and at home and Father Doherty popped into St. Bartholomew’s last week to offer some encouragement to the children. Please remember our Primary 4 pupils in your prayers over the coming weeks.

We had our first group of Pupils of the Week at Friday’s assembly. Well done to these boys and girls: you can look forward to ‘Tea with Mr Young’ later today!

Please not that the Parent Council will meet tomorrow at 6.00pm in the staffroom.

Finally, I can now confirm that St Bartholomew’s will be used as a polling station for the European Union referendum on Thursday 23rd June; the school will be closed to pupils on this day.
