Friday 10th June

Primary 4 are looking forward to their trip to Motherwell today, where they will be representing St Bartholomew’s  at ‘Primary Games’ sporting event. This is held every year and is a North Lanarkshire initiative where all the Primary school’s compete in a variety of sporting events such as running and badminton. Every year, as part of the event, there is a highly prized banner competition, where the school that has created the most eye catching and effective banner to represent their school, wins a prize. Our school won the banner competition last year and were awarded a monetary gift that contributed towards one of our after school clubs. Fingers crossd that we are as successful this year!! The very best of luck to everyone in their events!

Primary 7 are very happy to welcome to Ms Alison Smith from St Ambrose today, who will be speaking to the children about the R.E curriculum this morning. I am sure that the children will be delighted to hear about how the subject is taught at High School. I know that our primary 7’s will make Ms Smith feel very welcome and make a super impresion as future pupils.

Thursday 9th June

As we are nearing the end of term, it means that our wide selection of after school clubs will be coming to a close. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our dedicated staff for volunteering their own time to ensuring that our pupils have the chance to experience such a fabulous variety of activities. Both the gardening club and reading club will finish up on the 22nd of June and the Cheerleading club will finish this Monday.

A very ‘smiley’ primary 2 pupil arrived in my office today. This young lady had a ‘Reading Challenge ‘ medal, that she had won from the library. Well done!! We love congratulating our friends at St Bartholomew’s…

imageSports Day ran like a dream yesterday afternoon and we were blessed with glorious weather. The winning house this year was Summerlee and you can see the House Captains proudly showing off their trophy in the photograph. Many thanks to parents, carers, families and friends for turning up in such huge numbers to support the children. Thanks too to all of the staff, particularly Mrs McLean, for helping make the afternoon such a great success. And, of course, well done to each and every St Bart’s pupil for taking part so energetically and enthusiastically. You are all winners in my eyes!

St Bart’s FC have their final football fixture of the year this afternoon. The team has gone from strength to strength over the past few months and I’m sure they’ll do brilliantly well in their final match. Good luck, everyone!

Finally, please can I take this opportunity to thank St Bartholomew’s staff for their continued commitment this session to after school clubs. I’m extremely grateful, as I’m sure all of our pupils and parents are, that St Bart’s teachers are willing to give so generously of their time to organise and run such a fantastic range of clubs during the course of the year. Cooking, gardening, art, running… the list is huge! It’s very much appreciated. Thank you, Team!

Tuesday 7th June 2016

imageSt Bart’s Sports Day has (we hope!) finally arrived! As always, Sports Day is weather permitting. Today’s forecast has been constantly changing but, at the moment, is looking dry and warm. Hopefully, we can make it to the last race without the heavens opening! SHOULD THE FORECAST CHANGE, SPORTS DAY WILL BE POSTPONED UNTIL TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY). IF TODAY’S SPORTS DAY NEEDS TO BE CANCELLED, A TEXT WILL BE SENT TO PARENTS AND CARERS AT 11.45am . If you don’t hear anything, or see any announcement on the blog, please turn up at 1 o’clock, as planned!

The children do not need to wear school uniform today and can come in at 9.00am in their sports kit. Once again, please can I ask all parents and carers to apply sunscreen to their child this morning and to provide them with water to keep themselves hydrated. It’s going to be hot!

Lunch will be from 12.00 – 12.45pm today, with Sports Day beginning at 1.00pm. Please can I ask that parents do not enter the playground until lunchtime is finished and all pupils are back inside the school building. Thank you for your cooperation.

A huge thank you to Mrs McLean for organising and coordinating Sports Day as well as to the rest of the staff (particularly Mr Lynch!), our older pupils and the team of parent helpers who will do so much behind the scenes today to ensure everything runs like clockwork. What a team!.. Mr Hughes would have been proud of you all!

Monday 6th June 2016

Wasn’t it great to see the beautiful sunshine over the weekend! The good weather will continue today and, according to the latest forecast, tomorrow’s Sports Day should also remain warm and dry. Things kick-off at 1 o’clock, with an earlier lunch from 12.00 – 12.45pm to facilitate the starting time.

Now that summer has arrived, please can I remind all parents and carers to ensure they apply sunscreen to their child before they leave for school on sunny days. The children spend at least one hour each day in the playground, so it’s vital they are protected from the sun as they enjoy the good weather. A hat is also a good idea, especially if your child has particularly fair skin.

I should receive final confirmation this week of our staff for next year and I hope to be in a position to let both you and your child know their new teacher for August no later than the beginning of next week.

A HUGE well done to our badminton team who came first place in a competition on Friday. We’re really proud of you!

Finally, I’m delighted to inform you that Mark and Lucy Millar have, once again, managed to find time in their busy schedule to attend the Primary 7 Leavers’ Mass and prize-giving. This takes place on the second last day of term, Tuesday 28th June, at 1.30pm.

Friday 3rd June 2016

Our final class assembly of the year takes place today. Primary 5 have been practising hard and are looking forward to welcoming their guests at 2 o’clock this afternoon. The rest of the school will get the opportunity to see Primary 5’s assembly after playtime today.

Today is the Feast of the Sacred Heart, when the church asks us to honour and reflected upon the unconditional love that Jesus has for each and every one of us. Today’s gospel at Mass is the parable of the lost sheep, when the Good Shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to go in search of the one lost sheep… and then carries it home with great rejoicing! May each member of our school community open their heart to the love of Christ today so that they, in turn, may share the love of God with others.

“Though we are incomplete, God loves us completely. Though we are imperfect, He loves us perfectly. Though we may feel lost and without compass, God’s love encompasses us completely. … He loves every one of us, even those who are flawed, rejected, awkward, sorrowful, or broken.” (Dieter F. Uchtdorf)

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone – enjoy the sunshine!

Thursday 2nd June 2016

Following the AGM of the Parent Council on Tuesday evening, Mr Dennis Fallon was voted in as the new chairperson and Mrs Anne-Marie Kelly was voted in as the new treasurer. It was a very productive meeting, and plans were made to begin the 2016/17 school year by taking a fresh look at the curriculum offered to St Bartholomew’s pupils as well as beginning work on developing the playground and school grounds. Next year’s meetings will take place on the last Monday of each month at 6.00pm. Please contact Dennis Fallon or the school office if you would be interested in joining the Parent Council.

We welcome our new Primary 1 children to St Bartholomew’s this morning. The boys and girls will have the opportunity to visit their new classroom and do some activities with Mrs Carlin. While the children are having a wee taster of P1, mums and dads will have the opportunity to meet our Community Learning Development worker, Mhari Brady. Mhari will be offering parents further suggestions on how to support their child’s learning once they start school and will also be seeking their ideas and views on the sort of home-school activities parents would like to see offered in St Bartholomew’s next session. We look forward to welcoming our new P1s, along with their parents and carers, at 9.15am this morning.

Wednesday 1st June

Apologies for the missing blog yesterday! Needless to say , technical issues were involved…However, we are up and running today with all the latest news from St Bartholomew’s.

We had a fabulous treat at yesterday’s assembly when Angela Proctor, a novelist, read her latest book, ‘Thumble, Tumble and the Ollpheist’. The children were enthralled and demonstrated good manners and brilliant behaviour throughout Angela’s visit. A number of children pre ordered the book and received personally signed copies. Angela has very kindly volunteered to offer this service for the next few days and if children hand in £5.99 before Friday, then they can receive a personally signed copy of the book! Thank you Angela for this very kind gesture.

Our Primary 3 pupils are also in for a special treat today and are looking forward to their picnic in Drumpellier park! Just a gentle reminder to parents and Carers to pop sun cream on in the morning as the beautiful weather is set to continue and we don’t want anyone to be burned! A big thank you to Mrs McLean for organising this.
