St Bartholomews

Our primary 7  boys and girls left for York yesterday morning, at 8.30am sharp , as planned. Pupils and staff from Baird Memorial Primary in Cumbernauld accompanied St Bartholomew’s, as has been the case for a few years now. We are always delighted to see familiar faces from the staff at Baird Memorial  and it allows our pupils to make some lovely new friends. As always, you can catch up with their adventures via Twitter and I will report daily on the blog! I know that the boys and girls will have a fantastic time and have many exciting stories to tell when they return on Friday.

This morning is our second transition event for our new Primary 1 pupils. This will be held in the Performing Arts Studio at 9.15am, where Mrs Carlin will lead a Parent and Child workshop. This is a fantastic opportunity for parents and carers to work alongside their children and get a real flavour of the types of activities that our Primary 1 children are expected to do. I can assure you that the children are in very safe hands!

Just a wee reminder that our Art after school is scheduled today, and again a big thank you to Mrs Carlin for devoting her time to this very worthwhile activity.

At last …. Our pupils from Primary 7 are leaving today for York! The boys and girls have been looking forward to this trip for some time now and are super excited. They have a very busy schedule and have the opportunity to visit Eden Camp ( A World War 2  interactive museum), before they even get to the hotel. Then it’s not stop visits to York ( The chocolate experience and various museums to name but a few), Flamingo Land and The Science Centre in Newcastle. There are other excursions and experiences during this trip and we will be updating you on a daily basis through Twitter and the Head Teacher blog.

Just a reminder that the bus will leave St Bartholomew’s at 8.30 am sharp and boys and girls, along with parents/ carers can start arriving in school, just after 8am to gather in the Performing Arts Studio. Please ensure that children have all medication with them and if travel sickness pills are required, please ensure that they are taken at the appropriate time. Bon Voyage P7!

Tae Kwon Do after school is on today – please remember to pack kits and water bottles!  The children thoroughly enjoy this activity and it’s great for instilling discipline and increasing fitness. It’s also great fun and an opportunity to meet new friends.

This young lady is laden down with trophies and shields as a result of her hard work and talent in Girls Brigade.She won Best Squad Leader and Best Explorer Girl.All of her friends at St Bartholomew’s are very proud as the opportunity to share this success was taken at our whole school assembly on Friday. Well done!

Our First Communicants had a wonderful day on Sunday and everyone’s prayers for beautiful weather certainly paid off- it was glorious. The children were a sight to behold and their behaviour and reverence was exemplary. A huge number of positive comments from parishioners, parents and staff have flooded in.One parishioner even took the time to email the school and comment on how well behaved the children were and how beautifully our choir sang. A huge well done to our First Communicants and also to Ms Seggie who prepared the children so well.

Our Primary 4’s will be making their First Communion at St Bartholomew’s church  during 11am Mass. Miss Seggie has prepared the children very well and I know that they are all looking forward to this very special event. Our entire Parish community has been  praying for these children over a number of weeks and I know that has been a huge support to them and their families. We all appreciate it.

Mr Young will pop in today to see the First Communicants and will provide the musical accompaniment to the beautiful hymns that the children have been practising. I am sure that he will find the time to catch up with all the children and carry out a quick visit to each class. The boys and girls will be delighted to see him again!

Our Pupil Voice meetings take place today and Mrs McLean has organised for each group to organise a ‘You said’, ‘We did’ display. Children from each group will discuss the types of activities and positive changes that their group has been responsible for and then discuss the actions that they have taken. A display of a few of these important point will be made in the main foyer. I am looking forward to being reminded of all the great work that the Pupil Voice groups have achieved over the year.

Our nursery boys and girls are setting off this morning to Blair Drummond Safari Park in Stirlingshire for their annual summer trip.I know that the boys and girls are very excited about it and I think that some mums and dads are even more excited about visiting the animals and taking in the sights. I am looking forward to hearing about it when everyone arrives back in St Bartholomew’s later on this afternoon.

A wee reminder that our football after school club is on today so please remember kits and water bottles etc.This is a fantastic opportunity to increase skills, fitness and socialise with friends.

Our first transition meeting for the new Primary 1 intake took place yesterday and it was lovely to see some existing parents with older children in the school, parents and carers of our nursery children and also some new faces . You are all very welcome and we look forward to working alongside you for the next seven years.

Our first Primary 1 transition event is taking place today! This will provide parents and carers with an introduction to St Bartholomew’s and an outline of what life looks like in Primary 1. This meeting is for parents and carers only and will be held in our Performing Arts Studio at 9.15am. Could I please ask that  the main school entrance is used on arrival. Your cooperation with this matter is very much appreciated. I am looking forward to meeting our new stakeholders and working work you in the near future.

I will be spending some time in Primary 2/3 this morning and very much looking forward to catching up with the children and joining in with their learning. I can’t wait…

This wonderful pupil was in my office recently, talking about his success at Boys Brigade. This is not the first time that he has appeared with medals and trophies from this organisation and proves that he is in fact, a very responsible citizen. Something that is central to our curriculum and beyond- well done!

Tae Kwon Do after school club is on today and I hope that the boys and girls who are lucky enough to be taking part, remember their kits and water bottles etc. I am sure that they will thoroughly enjoy this brilliant activity, which helps to improve fitness, develop skills and increase confidence. It sounds like a winner!

Our prosepective First communicants visited St Bartholomew’s church yesterday afternoon, to have confessions heard and also to familiarise themselves with their surroundings for the big day on Sunday, when they will receive the Holy Eucharist for the first time, which is a very special moment. I appreciate that our faith community is praying hard for these children and it is truly appreciated. Thank you.

Yesterday was Sea Sunday,when we had the opportunity to remember and pray for seafarers, their families and all who support them. The charity that serves this group is called The Apostleship  of the sea and one of its representatives is Ewan MacArthur, has previously visited our school .Ewan was speaking at my own Parish,St Joseph’s in Stepps, to share information about their good work during Sunday mass. It is always nice to see a familiar face and we will no doubt be seeing Ewan again.Please keep seafarers and their families in your prayers. This is particularly appropriate at this time of year,as the patron of this charity is Our Lady, who we especially pray to and ask for her intercession in the month of May.

Rebecca and Melissa from Primary 7 will be representing St Bartholomew’s at a Pupil Council conference in Airdrie this morning. Mrs Dolan will be escorting the girls and is very much looking forward to hearing about how other schools represent pupil voice.
