Thursday 15th March

It’s Parent’t Evening! If you have not made an appointment to see your child’s teacher, please contact the office and Mrs Dunn and Mrs Clare will be happy to help. This is very much a school community event and so many people contributors it’s success. Thank you to our parent helpers who have helped out with the book fair- the children always thoroughly enjoy and look forward to it. I’m sure that many of our boys and girls will be rewarded with a book from mums and dads, after a wonderful report from their teacher…

A huge thank you to all of our staff who go the extra mile at this time to  help parents book and set up appointments, set up the hall and foyer and spend considerable time preparing jotters, folders and reports to mums and dads.I very much appreciate all of this extra effort and I know that our parents and carers share that view. Thank you everyone.

Please try to come along to mass this morning, as Fr James will be celebrating  mass at 8.30am in our Oratory.

Wednesday 14th March

Our Primary 3 boys and girls  celebrated the sacrament of Reconciliation last night. The children were wonderful and it was very obvious that all of their hard work and preparations had paid off. This is a very important step in their faith journey, prior to First Holy Communion and Confirmation. A huge thank you to both Mrs McAdams and Mr Morgan.

Our Primary 5 boys and girls had their final session of swimming lessons at the Time Capsule yesterday. They have thoroughly enjoyed their time there and learned some very important skills for life. A huge thank you to our parent helpers ,who have been a super support to the school in escorting the children safely to the Time Capsule. It is very much appreciated. The  high school sports leaders will be back in St Bart’s today, working with our upper school pupils. This is another great opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people!

A wee reminder that parents evening will take place tomorrow  from 3.15pm until into the evening. The vast majority of parents and carers have used our online booking system very effectively, from the comfort of their own homes. A much more convenient system!

As always, we will ask you to take part in a survey , to help inform of us of what we need to improve , in order to make St Bartholomew’s an even better place to learn.  Parents and carers will also have the opportunity to comment in children’s Learning Journey Folders and see some wonderful examples of work, across the curriculum. Our Parent  Council members will also be on hand to recruit new members and give an insight into the great work that this group do. Please consider joining this great group…

Fr James will be celebrating mass in our beautiful Oratory  on Thursday at 8.30am. As always, all are welcome.

Tuesday 13th March

All of our boys and girls had the opportunity to spend some time looking through the variety of titles at the book fair yesterday. A huge thank you to our  parents and carers who volunteered to help the children navigate their way through the huge choice on offer. Boys and girls are hoping to be rewarded with a book of their choice, after a successful report at parent’s evening on Thursday. Fingers crossed everyone!

Our Primary 5 children will be enjoying swimming lessons at the Time Capsule this afternoon. The boys and girls have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and we are very lucky that we can offer this to our pupils!

Our Primary 3 pupils will experience the very special sacrament of  reconciliation this evening. Parents and carers have been asked to come to St Bartholomew’s Church at 6.45pm, for the 7pm service. Children are asked to come along, dressed in school uniform. This will be a very low key occasion, which is entirely appropriate to this sacrament. We all appreciate the prayers that our Parish Community have been saying for this group of children, thank you.

Again, a reminder that our online booking system for parents evening is up and running and I would encourage you to book your appointment to discuss your child’s progress.

Our parent fundraising group have decided to organise an Easter basket competition. Look out in school bags for a cardboard template that children are asked to decorate and the most interesting entry  from each class will win a prize . Children are asked to complete their basket by Friday.Good luck everyone!

Monday 12th March

Our World Book Day celebrations were thoroughly enjoyed by all! Thank you to all of our parents and carers who supported this event. The children looked great, dressed as their favourite characters from a book. One child from each class was awarded a book tolken for wearing an interesting costume which will then allow them to purchase a book from the book fair. The book fair has  now arrived in school and a timetable has been very kindly put together by Mrs Clare, so that all of our pupils will have the opportunity to visit it prior to Parent’s Evening in Thursday.

The online appointments system will be used again to book allocated times to visit your child’s teacher. This has proved to be very efficient and appreciated by many of our parents and carers. Mrs Dunn has very kindly set this up again and the system  is now live. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, where you will be provided with supportive advice and comments about your child’s progress.

Our Primary 3 pupils are very much looking forward to the very important sacrament of Reconciliation on Tuesday evening. As already stated in a letter, parents are asked to bring the children to St Bartholomew’s church at 6.40pm, dressed in school uniform so that they are settled for the service to begin at 7pm. Mrs McAdams has been working very hard preparing the children for this sacrament and we are all looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Could I ask that our Parish community remembers to include these boys and girls in their prayers? Thank you in advance for your support and help.

Friday 9th March

As mentioned in yesterday’s blog, we have a variety of parents and carers from Townhead Primary and St Bartholomew’s, working together on achieving a SQA Emergency First Aid qualification. Well done ladies! I know that you will be successful in achieving this qualification on completion of the course. A big thank you to the Community Learning and Development team, especially to Bernadette Newton who works very closely with us. This is a great example of building community!

Remember that it’s World Book Day celebrations today, and children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite character from a book. There is no requirement to dress up and if your child chooses not to take part, then please be advised that school uniform must be worn. Assembly will now take place in the morning, as I have been called to Headquarters for an important meeting in the afternoon.

Could I please gently remind parents and carers that Breakfast Club starts at 8.15 am. There has been a noticeable amount of children arriving before this time, please be advised that supervision at this club begins at 8.15 am and we do not hold responsibility before this time.

Thursday 8th March

Fr O’Kane has very kindly offered to celebrate mass in the Oratory at 8.30am today. It would be nice to see as many people from our Parish Community as possible, in the Oratory this morning. Lent is a very special time in the Church’s calendar and the power of prayer cannot be underestimated.

Prayer is the breath of faith: in a relationship of trust, in a relationship of love, dialogue cannot be left out, and prayer is the dialogue of the soul with God. Pope Francis

We look forward to welcoming parents from both Townhead Primary and St Bartholomew’s Primary, who are working on a First Aid course, with the help of our Community Learning and Development team. A big thank you to Bernadette Newton, for organisiang this joint community venture. A very worthwhile exercise!

Wednesday 7th March

Our Primary 6/7 pupils will be receiving some input from the junior sports leaders from the High School. This is a mutually beneficial exercise,as the young people from the high school increase their leadership skills and our Primary 6/7 boys and girls learn new skills and knowledge related to fitness. Well done everyone!

A reminder that Parents evening is next Thursday, 15th march. The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed, from our termly newsletter that the original date for this was the 8th of March. We rescheduled,as St Ambrose are holding their parents evening then and as many of you have children enrolled there, we thought that it would be more convenient to move this event. As per the arrangements from the previous parents evening, we will maintain the same on line booking system. I know that a number of our parents and carers enjoyed the convenience of booking appointment with their child/ ren’s teacher on line.

As tradition dictates, we will have the book fayre in school on the same week as Parent’s Evening. We will schedule a timetable so that all of our pupils have the opportunity to think about the choice of book that they may make.

Tuesday 6th March

It was lovely to see all of our pupils back where they belong today – at St Bartholomew’s! I know that many of our pupils took full adavantage of the inclement weather and had great fun in the snow. The vast majority of our children were certainly ready to immerse themselves in school life and enjoyed getting back to a routine.

Please be advised that World Book Day will be rescheduled for Friday, 9th March. Children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite character from a book. We will have a ‘readathon’ in the morning and a special assembly to allow children the opportunity to show all of our pupils, their wonderful costumes. There will be a prize for the best costume in each class. We are all looking forward to sharing in these fantastic creations.

Our loyal group of parent volunteers who regularly fundraise and organise events, such as disco’s etc have decided to organise an Easter Bonnet competition, where monies raised will be donated to Lenten charities. I will keep you posted on when this event will take place. I can say that it will take a similar format to that of the Christmas plates competition. Thank you for organising this ladies- your continued support is much appreciated.
