St Bartholomews

A huge welcome back to all of our pupils from Primary 1 to Primary 7 and of course,not forgetting our nursery boys and girls! The summer holidays now seem like a dim and distant memory for many of us as everyone has fully embraced getting back into the swing of school life. All of the children look very smart in their St Bartholomew’s uniform, especially their brand new, bright white shirt and  smart looking school tie. Our staff really appreciate the efforts that parent’s have made in order that the children are so well presented. Thank you for doing this and also thank you in advance for your continued support with this. I always remind the children that if you look smart, you think smart. Very true indeed!

The boys and girls have settled exceptionally well and there were no tears from our new intake of Primary 1 children. What superstars! They have already managed to walk smartly and quietly in corridors, walk with their buddies to mass on Thursday for the feast of the Assumption, eat their lunch independently in the dining hall and sit beautifully through assembly on Friday. This is no easy task for 4 and 5 year old’s.

All of our pupils have displayed excellent manners and behaviour and we are all looking forward to a really positive year, with a very mature and sensible Primary 7 cohort modelling fantastic standards of behaviour for all of our younger pupils to benefit from. Thank you boys and girls.

It’s the last week of term! On behalf of all of the dedicated members of staff at St Bartholomew’s, I would like to thank all of our boys and girls and their families for their hard work and continued support. I regularly remind our pupils that St Bartholomew’s Primary belongs to the community and that it is their school- not mine! I would like to extend a heart felt wish for a relaxing and peaceful summer holiday for everyone. We all deserve it. The St Bart’s team all look forward to welcoming you back on Wednesday 14th August at 9am.

The week ahead looks something like this;

On Monday, Clare from NHS Dental team will visit us in the afternoon to ensure that all of the toothbrushing resources are in order. Thank you Clare.Our Primary 5 pupils look forward to performing for their families at 11am, where Clare from Kodaly will support the children in displaying their newly found talents. Alison from the Speech and Language therapy team will be visiting us today. All of our visitors are most welcome.

On Tuesday, Fr O’Kane will celebrate mass for our Primary 7 leavers at 1.30pm. This will be a very special and emotional occasion as this will be the last time that the Primary 7 boys and girls will gather as part of the whole school community. Mass will be followed by prize giving, and then a short assembly. The children have been working hard on this with Ms Allington and are keen to perform for their family and friends. Members from our Parish community are also invited and Fr O’Kane announced this at mass on Sunday. We are looking forward to seeing you then.

On Wednesday we look forward to putting plans in place for next year’s  classes and letters will be distributed accordingly.

On Thursday, the children are asked to come to school with crazy  hair- the more adventurous the better! Vicky from CLD  will visit this afternoon to support some of our parents.

On Friday, we say goodbye to our Primary 7 children and all of the staff and children will say goodbye with a special ‘tunnel’.School closes at 1pm. Again, I sincerely hope that everyone in our school community enjoys a very happy and relaxing holiday. I would also like to thank Mr Denis Fallen for his hard work and dedication as Chair of our Parent Council and will step down from this post as he will no longer have children at the school at the end of this session. I know that Mr Fallen is particularly proud of his contribution to ensuring the many modifications and improvements to our school building. Thank you for your wonderful contributions and support.

Again, I was visited by 2 very talented young ladies, who were eager to share their recent success’ in dance. Well done girls!

On Monday, our  area finance assistant will be visiting me this morning in order to discuss next year’s budget. Mrs McLean will be visiting P3 today in order to monitor SEAL maths, a numeracy initiative that has been in place since February. I know tha5bthe boys and girls will be keen to demonstrate their new skills!

On Tuesday, I will be hosting  a  family group meeting in St Bart’s and we all look forward to welcoming a number of Head Teacher’s from the authority. Mrs McLean will be visiting P7, again, to catch up with the progress that our pupils are making with SEAL maths. A member of the NHS Occupational Health team will visit one of our P4 pupil’s. Our Education Psychologist will be visiting our school today in order to conduct a number of review meetings to improve outcomes for our pupils.

On Wednesday, Mrs MacIntyre will be attending a nursery meeting at  Gartlea Community centre, and will keep us up to date with the most recent information for our youngest boys and girls. Mrs McLean will enjoy visiting P4 and Mrs Crielly to catch up with numeracy progress from some of our pupils.

On Thursday, we are all looking forward to the Nursery graduation ceremony for all of our pre school children. I have been lucky enough to hear the practice performance and know that we are all in for a treat! A huge thank you to all of the staff in our fabulous nursery. Mrs McLean will be visiting P5 and P2  to monitor progress in our latest numeracy initiative. Vicky from CLD  will be visiting us this afternoon and some of our parents look forward to her input. Thank you Vicky! P7 leaver’s party take place this evening from 6.30pm until 8.30pm. This will be a wonderful experience for our senior pupils and is a very fitting farewell, prior to their onward education journey to High School. A huge thank you to our Parent Council members, who have been working hard behind the scenes, ensuring that the evening is a great success.

On Friday, we look forward to our weekly assembly, where our ‘Pupil’s of the week’ , ‘Cool Class Cup’ and House winners will be announced.

As you can see from our photographs above, the boys and girls of St Bartholomew’s continue to enjoy success with wider achievements. A young man in Primary 1 visited me with his wonderful work in numeracy- what a star! The group photograph illustrates our girls Gaelic football team and the recent success that they have enjoyed- well done girls. Two cousins continue to enjoy success in dance competitions- fantastic news! Last but not least, one of our primary 2 boys has been awarded a fabulous trophy for footballing success- great news!

This week is Health week and we have a number of exciting events that will contribute to healthy outcomes for children.

On Monday, I will be attending a Nursery review meeting at  Kildonan st. in order to improve outcomes for our youngest children. I will also be attending a cluster meeting at St Ambrose to discuss our School Improvement Plan for the coming year.

On Tuesday, P7  will be visiting St Ambrose High School in the morning for a sneak preview of the fabulous summer show that the boys and girls have been working on. This will allow our pupils to experience some of the extra curricular activities that they could potentially take part in. Very importantly ,  the Financial Inclusion Team will be hosting a drop in session at St Ambrose High in the afternoon from 1.30pm until 4.30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to get some relevant financial advice- please see letters that I sent out last week to this effect.

On Wednesday, our younger pupils fromP1 and P3 will visit the Science   Centre in Glasgow. Have fun boys and girls! Primary 5 will visit the Time Capsule to take part in their weekly swimming/ dry sports. Primary 6 will take part in cookery with RHET. I am looking forward to sampling some culinary delights…

On Thursday, we hope to host sports day, this is , of course, weather dependent and will keep you up to date on how likely it looks! As always, lots of preparation goes in to this event and we thank you in advance for your support. Community Learning and Development,CLD , will be working with some of our parents this afternoon- thank you Vicky.

On Friday, it’s our annual Nursery fun day and there will be a wide variety of  fun activities for the children to enjoy. Thank you to parent helpers for their continued support. We also look forward to Sally visiting us today in order to deliver Kodaly  to our Primary 5 pupils.

Welcome back everyone after the 3 day break for pupils! Staff were working on Thursday in order to improve outcomes for children. I trust that all of our staff, pupils and parents enjoyed the long weekend and are now returning to school, refreshed and ready for the last leg of the final term.

On Tuesday, we welcome all of our pupils and children in the nursery, back to St Bart’s. A very special welcome is extended to our prospective Primary 1 children, who will visit their classroom and work with their new teacher- how exciting ! Parents will work with Vicky Marshall, our Community Learning and Development Officer. You are all most welcome to the St Bart’s family.Our Primary 2 to Primary 7 pupils will be taking part in assessment this week- what a great opportunity to show off all of that knowledge. Good luck boys and girls.

On Wednesday, our Primary 5 children will attend the Time Capsule for their swimming/ dry sports lessons. The children are doing really well and some are even showing particular skills. Well done boys and girls. Gaelic football finals for our Primary 7 children take place today. Again, the very best of luck from all of your friends at St Bart’s. Teaching staff will take part in training after school and will be delivered from our Education Psychologist. We look forward to this wonderful development opportunity.

On Thursday, our nursery boys and girls who will be attending Townhead Primary will pay their new school a visit- we are all excited for you! Today is Ascension Thursday and our entire school community will be attending mass at St Bartholomew’s Church for 10 o’clock mass. Thank you in advance to our parent helpers for safely supervising the children to Church.

On Friday, I will be attending the annual Primary Head Teacher’s meeting at the Bellshill Hilton. I look forward to this important event. Mrs McLean will be attending a numeracy coach meeting and will work collegiately with colleagues. Sally Wilkinson will be working with our Primary 5 children on  Kodaly. We will, of course, announce our ‘Pupils of the Week’. Good luck children!

Last week saw some very special visitor in our school- our new Primary 1 parents and some of the boys and girls. We are delighted to welcome them to the wonderful St Bart’s family and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday for a parent and child workshop.

Huge congratulations to our First Communicants , our second cohort of boys and girls received the  very special gift of the Eucharist yesterday. Well done boys and girls- you were a credit to yourselves, families and the Parish community!

On Monday, we welcome Elaine Johnstone,  acting Continuous Improvement Officer with North Lanarkshire Council. We all look forward to showing her around the school and discussing our progress.

On Tuesday, I will be visiting St Edward’s Primary School to attend a family group meeting with other Head Teachers from the authority with similar demographics.We also welcome Michelle Milward who  is scheduled to meet Mrs Wilson. Mrs MacIntyre will be out of school and will be attending an admissions meeting for our  2 year old nursery. Our Primary 6 and Primary P4/5 pupils will enjoy another Cricket session today. Another wonderful sporting skill to add to the collection boys and girls!

On Wednesday, our youngest boys and girls from the nursery will be out and about today on their annual summer trip. Have fun everyone! Mr Fowler and Primary 2 are also out of school today and will enjoy the many attractions and activities within Kelvingrove art gallery. We look forward to sharing in your adventures when you return.  Primary 5 pupils will enjoy another session at the Time Capsule, where they will take part in swimming/ dry sports.

On Thursday, Vicky from Community Learning and Development will be working with some of our parents in our Get Together room. Kimberly Ross will visit St Bart’s at 3pm today in order to deliver Low Intensity Anxiety Management (LIAM )training  as a coaching session with some of our staff.

I hope that everyone has enjoyed a restful couple of day! Our teaching staff will be very busy on Tuesday, contributing to our School Improvement Plan and Strategic Curriculum Plan. There are also a variety of continuous personal development opportunities in the afternoon that our staff will be engaging in. What a busy and worthwhile day…

On Wednesday, we welcome back our Primary school pupils and children from the nursery. We are all happy to see you! Our Primary 5 pupils will be visiting The Time Capsule to further develop skills in swimming and general fitness activities. After school, our staff will engage with training from our Education Psychologist on nurture principles and additional support needs. We look forward to this development opportunity.
