Normally at this time of year you would be meeting your buddies for the first time and would begin welcoming the new intake to Primary 1.
That can’t really happen the way that it normally would.
However, you can still act as buddies to the new Primary 1 intake.
We would like each of you to write a ‘Buddy Letter’, welcoming the new intake to the school, explaining a little about who you are and what you are interested in and telling them about some of your positive experiences of going to school, that we can give to the new Primary 1s.
With your parents’ permission we would also like these letters to include a photograph so that the incoming Primary 1s will be able to put a face to the name.
Your parents or guardians should have received an email about it yesterday. If they did not have them check their junk mail or email me at:

Remember homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings and are spelt differently. Last week we looked at to/too/two because they are very commonly mis-spelled as people use the wrong one. You must ensure that you use the correct word in your writing. We all did very well on the exercise but the hard part now is to remember to apply what you have learned and use the correct word. I’ll be looking very closely at this in your written work. 🔎
Today I would like you to think of pairs/trios of other homophones. Can you list 5? 7? or maybe even 10? Try your hardest and I would love to see your lists. Some are more common than others. Once you have your list I would like you to take 3 of your sets of homophones and show me you understand what each of them mean by using them in a sentence. Remember your core targets and make your sentences as interesting as possible. Remember, too, it must make sense.
Continue to practise your phoneme words if you need to.

Today we are going to concentrate on our 4 number operations. These are addition/subtraction/multiplication/division (+ – x ÷). If you are given a sum you always have to look at the sign and ensure we carry out the correct operation. If we are given a word problem we have to ensure we read it carefully and ask ourselves what we need to do. Will we add, subtract, multiply or divide.
We are going to be working from our Teejay Textbook today, so I will give you your exercise when you email me about your reading book.
When you have finished you can choose to play an online maths game of your choice for one of the four operations.

• Wear suitable sunscreen and apply it often

It’s Thursday! Easily the most exciting day of the week. Did you know that Thursday is traditionally the day that toast will land BUTTER SIDE UP!

Although, just like any old myth that I made up, you probably don’t want to test it too much.
Here are the answers to yesterday’s maths questions.

This week we are working on some word problems that involve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Calculate the answers to these questions in your jotter.
a) A theatre holds 1060 people. If 389 seats remain unsold on one evening, how many seats have been sold?
b) The school spends £186.20 on fresh fruit during January. In February it spends £188.89. How much has been spent on fruit in total during these two months?
c) A car salesroom sells 12 cars for £9,800 each. How much money have they taken altogether?
c) Jade’s mum buys a pack of 6 kiwi fruit. They cost £1.32. How much does each kiwi fruit cost?
d) What is the product of 19 and 3.6?
e) Mr Daw gives each child in his class 18 stickers during January. If there are 29 children in Mr Daw’s class, how many stickers has Mr Daw given out?
f) Katie spends £1.29 on a magazine and £8.95 on a CD. If she had £12.50 to start with, how much does she have left?
g) Mrs Sherwood puts sweets into bags before the disco. If she puts 14 sweets into each bag, how many bags will be needed to take 196 sweets?
h) Mr Daw shows limited willpower and eats 17 biscuits every day in 2009. (Mrs Mole eats the rest.) How many biscuits will Mr Daw have eaten by the end of the year?
i) Being healthy, Mrs Wollington buys a 2-litre bottle of olive oil. She uses 567ml in one week, then 533 the next week. How much does she have left in the bottle by the end of the second week?
Remember, decimals make no difference to how you add, subtract, multiply or divide you only have to remember to keep the decimal points above one another, in a straight line.
This is not how we would write out sums to find the answer so don’t write them this way in your jotter. Use place value, carrying and decomposition (borrowing) to find your answers.

For words ending in o we usually add -es.

A few children have contacted me to say they have completed their Scholastic novels that they were set and would like to be assigned new ones. Well done if you have completed your assigned novel or indeed a personal reader as we all know how important reading is and it is such a nice way to switch off and relax. I have really enjoyed reading my book in the back garden with the sunshine. 
Continue to try your best Primary 7 and remember to take plenty of breaks, get lots of fresh air and do something that you enjoy to help keep your spirits up.
Send over any work that you have completed so that I can share it with your peers on our daily blogs. Any task that you complete should make you proud as I know it can be difficult to stay motivated during these times. I am proud of you all!

How many seasons are there?
There are 4 seasons. The four seasons — winter, spring, summer, autumn.

How did you get on yesterday with reading the calendar? It is a very important skill that you will use throughout your lives, especially when you are a grown up.
I like to mark important dates on my calendar. First I always like to put in peoples’ birthdays so I do not forget. I also add in any holidays I have planned and any appointments I need to go to.
Calendars are very useful! Keep practising reading the calendar in your house.

Yesterday you were learning about clocks!
You now know that a clock is a device that tells the time.
How many different types of clocks did you find in your house?
Today you are going to learn even more about the analogue clock.
Before you can tell the time, it is important that you learn all about the different parts of the analogue clock.
Let’s learn about the analogue clock with Jack Hartmann.
Here is a picture of an analogue clock:
An analogue clock is a circular-faced clock.
There are twelve numbers on a clock. As you can see the numbers one to twelve are around the outside of the clock. These numbers represent the hour.
The clock has two hands. Can you notice the difference in their size?
The hour hand is the short hand.
The long hand is used to measure minutes.
Here is a little song to help you remember the difference between the short hand and long hand on a clock.
Now that you know about the main parts of a clock, it’s time to make your own!
Today I challenge you to make your very own clock face! ⏰
There are lots of different ways you can do this. Let’s get creative!
First you will need to find something that is a circular shape and draw around it. This could be a lid or plate.
Write the number 12 at the top and the number 6 at the bottom of the circle. Can you write in the rest of the clock face numbers?
Now put a dot in the centre of your circle. Well done! Now you have a clock face.
What else do we need? 2 hands!
Can you find 2 things that could be the hands of the clock? You could use spoons, pencils or straws but remember, one has to be longer than the other.

Thank you for all of the photographs of your virtual sports day. It looks like you all had great fun!

Today is our writing day. We are going to be writing an imaginative story.
This is a fictional story and must include characters, setting and a main event.
To help you generate some ideas have a look at the story mat below.
Use a dice to choose one thing from each column. You should roll the dice 3 times to give yourself a character, setting and a problem. The problem will be your main event. If you do not have a dice at home then you can choose one thing from each column.
Now I would like you to use these three things to write an imaginative story. Remember it must have a beginning, a middle and an end. You could also include a picture.
Don’t forget to check your core targets!

SPLAT – Today I would like you to write your common words in chalk outside. Ask someone to call a word out and once you find the word SPLAT it with a water balloon. If you don’t have any water balloons you could use a nerf gun or jump on the word or colour it in. You can do this with as many of your common words as you can.

Yesterday you kick started your maths work by practising the days of the week and months of the year. Today we are going to focus on the Seasons.
How many seasons are there?
There are 4 seasons. The four seasons — winter, spring, summer, autumn.
It is important that you can name the seasons and their characteristics.

How did you get on yesterday with reading the calendar? It is a very important skill that you will use throughout your lives, especially when you are a grown up.
I like to mark important dates on my calendar. First I always like to put in peoples’ birthdays so I do not forget. I also add in any holidays I have planned and any appointments I need to go to.
Calendars are very useful! Keep practising reading the calendar in your house.
Round the clock ⏰
Yesterday you were learning about clocks!
You now know that a clock is a device that tells the time.
How many different types of clocks did you find in your house?
Today you are going to learn even more about the analogue clock.
Before you can tell the time, it is important that you learn all about the different parts of the analogue clock.
Let’s learn about the analogue clock with Jack Hartmann.
Here is a picture of an analogue clock:
An analogue clock is a circular-faced clock.
There are twelve numbers on a clock. As you can see the numbers one to twelve are around the outside of the clock. These numbers represent the hour.
The clock has two hands. Can you notice the difference in their size?
The hour hand is the short hand.
The long hand is used to measure minutes.
Here is a little song to help you remember the difference between the short hand and long hand on a clock.
Now that you know about the main parts of a clock, it’s time to make your own!
Today I challenge you to make your very own clock face! ⏰
There are lots of different ways you can do this. Let’s get creative!
First you will need to find something that is a circular shape and draw around it. This could be a lid or plate.
Write the number 12 at the top and the number 6 at the bottom of the circle. Can you write in the rest of the clock face numbers?
Now put a dot in the centre of your circle. Well done! Now you have a clock face.
What else do we need? 2 hands!
Can you find 2 things that could be the hands of the clock? You could use spoons, pencils or straws but remember, one has to be longer than the other.

We have all been enjoying the lovely sunny weather recently and it has been great to be able to get outside and play. Even though it is important for everyone to enjoy the sun we have got to remember that it can burn your skin. There are three important steps to stop sunburn:
• Cover up with clothing and a hat
• Spend time in the shade,
• Wear suitable sunscreen and apply it often
In the attached sheet the character in it is out in the sun with no hat!!! I would like you to design a hat for the character and make sure it offers suitable protection against the sun.

When we pray it is important to remember a few simple things. Prayers can be simple thoughts and words coming straight from the heart. Sometimes God doesn’t seem to give us what we pray for. Do not give up praying – keep on talking to God and listening for he knows what is best for you, even if it is not what you expected. It is also important to remember that we don’t just ask God for things we want. Remember to praise God and thank him for his goodness, to tell him about ourselves and others and say sorry if we have done wrong.
