Self-evaluation and quality assurance are key to the effectiveness and success of Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral Primary School & Nursery Class. Cathedral Primary & Nursery Class views self-evaluation and quality assurance as an opportunity rather than a requirement: a chance to reflect on our vision, values and aims and to take an honest look at where we are now, where we want to be, how we know we will have arrived and how we are going to get there.
The purpose of self-evaluation and quality assurance in Cathedral Primary & Nursery Class is to give us ownership of our own development and improvement, empowering our whole school community to recognise and affirm good practice and to identify and take action on areas that require improvement. Ultimately, of course, self-evaluation and quality assurance are about improving outcomes for our young learners and we must never lose sight of this.
The following document provides an overview of Cathedral Primary School’s Annual Improvement Plans from 2020/21 – 2023/24, how the various priorities were developed and embedded over time, the practical changes that arose from the range of improvement work and how the school’s Pupil Equity Fund allocation was used strategically to improve outcomes for learners.
School Improvement Plan overview
Once the changes and improvements outlined in the above overview had been embedded and there was a shared understanding of effective learning, teaching and assessment across the school, Cathedral’s Annual Improvement Plan adopted a dual focus from August 2024, with Priority 1 focusing on Pedagogy (how we learn and teach) and Priority 2 (and 3) on Curriculum (what we learn and teach). The rationale behind this approach is two-fold:
- to ensure ongoing refinement and improvement of learning, teaching and assessment across the school;
- to establish a cyclical review and refresh of all areas of the curriculum within the Broad General Education.
