Young learners shine

The Attainment Team (A- Team) at Cathedral Primary is shining brightly, with our enthusiastic Primary 2 learners working hard to build their numeracy skills. Through hands‑on activities, focused practice and plenty of encouragement, these young mathematicians are growing in confidence and achieving real success.

Their determination is matched only by their joy—smiles all round as they celebrate each new step in their learning journey with Mrs Duffy. Cathedral Primary is proud of their progress and the positive, can‑do attitude they bring to every session.

Digital skills in Primary 7

Primary 7 pupils at Cathedral Primary are developing their digital creativity through the NLC Progressive Framework, with a particular focus on capturing and editing high‑quality photographs. Using a range of digital tools, learners are exploring composition, lighting, and storytelling through images, before enhancing their work with thoughtful editing techniques.

This hands‑on digital learning experience not only builds technical skills but also strengthens problem‑solving, collaboration and confidence. By embedding these digital competencies across learning, Cathedral Primary continues to enrich teaching and learning, preparing pupils for a world where creativity and digital literacy go hand in hand.

Tessellation skills

Mrs Duffy was most impressed with the mathematical learning taking place during her class visits today. Pupils were confidently applying their tessellation skills to tile a range of areas with impressive accuracy and attention to detail. Their numeracy skills were clearly evident as they created their own tiling patterns and checked their work carefully.

Learners were also able to discuss, with real assurance, how these skills connect to the world of work — including the importance of measuring accurately, estimating effectively, and calculating area in practical contexts. Their ability to articulate the relevance of their learning shows a strong understanding of how mathematics supports future pathways.

Celebrating success in Primary 4

We are delighted to share some fantastic news from the weekend. One of our Primary 4 learners achieved outstanding success at a dance competition in Glasgow, representing her community dance club, CDGC.

Her hard work and dedication shone through as she and her team brought home their first-ever trophy in Jazz, along with a brilliant third place in Lyrical. This is a tremendous achievement for both her and the club, and we are incredibly proud of the commitment, confidence, and creativity she has shown.

This accomplishment will be proudly recorded in the wider achievement section of her Rose Trainer Award, recognising the skills and perseverance she demonstrates beyond the classroom.

A huge well done — what an inspiring example of passion and determination.

Football tournament shines at Cathedral

Pupils took to the pitch for a fantastic afternoon of football and what a brilliant event it turned out to be. Players from upper school classes had the chance to step onto the field, enjoy the sunshine and represent their year group with pride. The tournament was filled with energy, teamwork and plenty of memorable moments.

Our coaches were especially impressed by the pupils’ attitude, talent and sportsmanship throughout the day. They commented on how well the children supported one another, played fairly and demonstrated real enthusiasm for the game. It was clear that the spirit of the event mattered just as much as the final scores.

We are very proud of every player and the committed coaches Mr McDermott and Mr Neville who took part and helped make the tournament such a success.

Nursery News!

A warm welcome back from our Easter break, we hope you all had great fun. Lots of amazing learning opportunities, engaging our young learners whilst welcoming some new children who are starting their nursery journey.

We have spent time listening to stories that included rhyming words and have been building confidence in reciting familiar nursery rhymes. Our nursery rhyme of the week is ‘The Grand Old Duke of York’ which children have been joining in enthusiastically using their bodies to follow the actions.

Out in the garden, young learners have been using their imagination to create different modes of transport, including buses, trains and planes, developing creativity and teamwork building our communication skills with each-other. We have been reminding our children on SIMOA and what it means to us, how we can incorporate it into our daily routines and helping children understand how it supports our nursery values. We have enjoyed visits to our local environment, our forest school, library, and park. Children have explored, observed and connected with the wider world around them.

A highlight of the week has been welcoming our new ‘Ladybird’ visitors. The children have shown great curios as they begin to observe how they grow. This has sparked interesting conversations about the life cycles of insects and flowers.

SOC 0-07a I explore and discover the interesting features of my local environment to develop an awareness of the world around me.
SCN 0-01a I have observed living things in the environment over time and am becoming aware of how they depend on each other.

P3/P4 Make earth ‘cool’!

Our P3/4 learners marked Earth Day with the kind of curiosity and enthusiasm that makes you feel genuinely hopeful about the future. They didn’t just talk about the planet — they explored how their own choices can help protect it. The big theme this year was understanding how we can reduce emissions and cool the planet, and the class threw themselves into the challenge.

Come clubbing @ Cathedral

Our P5–7 pupils have been showing incredible determination as they continue their after‑school cross country training. The club has settled into a great rhythm, with pupils pushing themselves, supporting one another and building the stamina they’ll need for the North Lanarkshire Cross Country Final later this term.

There’s a real buzz around the group. Whether they’re pacing laps, working on technique, or cheering on their teammates, the commitment they bring each week is something to be proud of. Mr Hamill has been especially impressed by the positive attitude and sportsmanship displayed.

There’s music in the Cathedral air!

Our school learning streets are sounding a little sweeter these days, with the launch of our summer‑term choir rehearsals with Mrs Shevlin. Mrs Duffy was absolutely delighted to hear those first warm, confident voices drifting down towards her office. There’s something special about the early weeks of choir season: the mix of excitement, nerves and the spark that comes when young singers find their harmony together. We look forward to hearing them perform at a number of events this term.

Proud moment at Easter Road for Cathedral learner

One of our young learners and her sister, a former pupil of ours, recently enjoyed an unforgettable experience serving as the official mascots for the recent Scotland–Belgium Women’s World Cup 2027 qualifier match played on 18 April 2026. The final score was 0–0 but a match they will never forget. She managed to keep her exciting news until after Spring break.

It was a truly proud moment for her and her family, and one that certainly deserves a special mention in her Rose Trainer Achievement Award record!
