Young learners from Winners Wynd took their science experiment outdoors today, eager to explore how everyday materials can create surprising reactions. Their investigation focused on observing what happens when vinegar reacts with an eggshell, dissolving the calcium carbonate and leaving behind a flexible, bouncy membrane.
The children watched closely as bubbles formed on the shell, signalling the chemical reaction taking place. Once the shell dissolved, they were able to gently test their newly created “bouncy eggs” and discuss the changes they observed.
Back in class, these young scientists used their findings to write functional lab reports, describing the process, recording observations and reflecting on the results. Their writing was thoughtful, detailed, and full of curiosity — truly amazing work.

At the annual Blantyre Celtic Festival, held at the Palace Grounds in Hamilton, one of our brilliant Primary 3 learners stepped onto the pitch with determination, confidence and incredible talent. By the end of the festival, he had earned one of the highest honours of the entire event:

Our Primary 2 pupils have been busy creating their own bird feeders as part of their outdoor learning. Working together in small cooperative groups, they gathered materials, shared responsibilities, and helped one another through each step.

Primary 5 hosted another successful coffee morning on Friday 1st May. As always, it was great to see the hall filled with families and friends enjoying a catch up over coffee and cake. The event raised a fantastic £590 for school funds.
Our upper school pupils represented Cathedral brilliantly at the North Lanarkshire Cross Country Final in Wishaw Sports Centre. Over the past number of weeks, the children have been training with real dedication during our Come Clubbing @ Cathedral after‑school sessions — and today, that commitment truly paid off.
