Primary 3/4 October Reflection

Wow what a busy October we have had in Primary 3/4. In maths we have continued to work on subtraction and working on a variety of different tasks to help us. We are also looking at multiplication with Miss McCluskey. We are already really good with our 2, 5 and 10 times table.

In literacy we have been busy doing lots of reading. We loved our visit to our local library. We have been working hard on story writing from reports, recount, and even Halloween acrostic poems.

Within PE we are still working with Greig in musical theatre, for Halloween he taught us a scary dance. We have been given the wonderful opportunity to work with Hazel, who is not just a GB champion but she’s a World champion for Taekwondo. She has been showing us moves and helping us learn all about it. We are loving learning from an expert.

This month we have loved going out on our Autum walks, making Autum Wreaths with the leaves we had collected. We have also been busy craving our own pumpkins.  With the other pumpkins we decided to make pumpkin soup. The Halloween disco was so much fun, we got to dance and play games.

We now can’t wait till Christmas but for now we must work on our Nativity, and all the other exciting things that Miss Verrecchia has planned.

LITERACY

P1/2 have been working so hard over the past month, on their letter formation and writing. They have also been using their experiences to help them with their picture plans and visual clues.  For example the children were very excited about their up and coming school Halloween Party and so together we decided that it would be a good idea to make posters to advertise.  When their writing was completed, the children went with their buddies to display their posters around the school to remind everyone about it.  Great work everyone!

Here are our Star Writers of the month…Great work P1/2 keep it up

MATHS

Children are continuing to have fun as they learn about number through the seal S.E.A.L.  Approach  to learning and are enjoying  developing their number formation and counting skills  in a variety of ways.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING

P1/2 had a visit from their lovely dental Nurses, who showed them the correct way to clean their teeth.  The children  have been following instructions and taking responsibility so that their mouth gums and teeth stay healthy.

P.E.  Emotion Works and Interdisciplinary Learning

Throughout October, we have been looking into the ‘H’ that represents ‘Healthy’ in our ‘sHanarri Wheel.   Bringing together  Emotion Works and Shanarri , we are learning about how our emotions work and how they can affect us and others in positive and negative ways. We are also learning what these emotions might look and feel like and how we can  recognise them.

Here are P1/2 Learning about Emotion Works and displaying and encouraging Healthy Emotions in P.E.   As they help and include each other, the children are learning  how their positive behaviour can begin to change how others feel,  for the better.

ART/MINI-TOPIC:   HALLOWEEN

The children also had a fantastic time  working on their mini topic and learning about Halloween. As they prepared for their party they created lots of fantastic artwork for the wall displays and moving images to hang in the classroom and take home.

P3/4 Reflection

In Primary 3/4 we have been very busy this September. We have been learning lots and been having lots of fun.

In maths we have been learning lots more about addition and now subtraction. Active maths has helped with the sums we find a little bit more difficult.

We all have successfully completed our first report writing piece. It was very ingesting to learn about report writing. We have all created our own report on Mummification, which we hope you will enjoy reading during parents night.

In PE we are coming to the end of Gymnastics, however we are loving musical theatre with Greig. We are in the middle of a dance routine to the Lion King which looks amazing already.

We have now started Roots of Empathy in our class. During this we have a real baby come to visit us with Mrs Le Blond, we get to learn so much from the baby.

October will be another very busy month for us all and Miss Verrecchia has a lot planned with Halloween art etc.

Thank you  for reading.

ACTIVE LITERACY

P1/2 have continued their hard work in literacy as they learn about their alphabet, phonic sounds and common words  to help develop their spelling, reading and writing.   The particularly like to learn outdoors and through active participation, songs and games  etc.

Also P1/2 had their first walk and visit to Bellshill Cultural Centre Library this month. The children learned about joining the library getting their very own library ticket  which they would use if they wanted to borrow a book.  The librarian read them lots of stories, played games then the children got to look at all the great books they might choose when they joined the library.

The  children also found a useful tool for measuring at the library before the went back to school.

STAR WRITERS OF THE MONTH

Here are some of our Star Writers for this month .  Well done Everyone.

NUMERACY

The children have really enjoyed actively engaging with their learning in numeracy and learning about 2 D and 3D shapes.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING – SAFETY                                                                   AND INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNING

In all areas of Health and Wellbeing  the children have been learning about Safety.  For example, at home/in school/playing in the playground/walking up and down the stairs etc, as well as Internet safety and P.E.

In P.E and Relaxation,  for example  the children are learning about moving safely.  Following instructions.  Finding a safe space with plenty of room around them so they are not bumping into anyone.  This  will help the children to work well on their own, or as part of a team.  Helping them not only to think of themselves but of others so that they can come together as a successful team.

SOCIAL SCIENCES – PEOPLE WHO HELP US

We are learning a about people who help us and have been thinking about all the people who help us to stay safe and what there jobs are.  We have also had the RSPCC in to our school for a visit and they were able to tell us how to stay safe too.

Primary 6- September reflective post

Primary 6 have had a really fun September. We have been doing lots of fun tasks in class and learned lots of new things.

In maths we have learned all about place value and have now moved on to decimals which we have found a little more difficult but getting the hang of it now but we know we still need to practise. We are still reading our book Tribes and cannot wait to find out what happens next.

We have learned lots about the Scottish Parliament and have been trying to follow what has been going on down in Westminster with Brexit. We are looking forward to our visit to Holyrood in November to learn more about it.

Recently we have started our new topic about Endangered species and will be learning lots about climate change and how it is affecting our world. We have also just started Cricket for PE and are looking forward to our lessons in this sport.

Lots to look forward to in October!

Thanks for reading

Primary 6

Primary 3/4

We have all settled into Primary 3/4 really well and are now getting used to our new routines.

We are all very excited about our new topic this term, The Ancient Egyptians. Already we have been researching the pyramids and even built our own 3D pyramid. We loved recreating and designing our own death masks which are displayed on our topic wall.

In literacy we have been revising our phonemes and common words. The reading tent and blow up doughnut has been so much fun, it helps us with our reading.

In maths we have been working hard on revision with place value and addition. The line up game is really helping reinforce this, plus we get to win prizes.

We are all working really hard and excited for what this year is going to bring as Miss Verrecchia has a lot of things planned for us all.

Reflective Post Primary 6

Primary 6 are settling in well to their new class. We have been having lots of fun already and are looking forward to the rest of the year. We have a lot more responsibility this year and have been doing many jobs around the school.

We have started to work with the children from primary 6 in Mossend primary and will continue to do this all year by participating in the daily mile and workshops together. We have started a mini topic all about the Scottish Parliament and are really interested in whats going on in our country right now and are hoping to visit the Scottish Parliament later this term.

In Maths we have been focusing on place value but also know that we need to practise our times tables often as these are extremely important. We have started a new novel Tribes by Cathy MacPhail and so far we are really enjoying it and can’t wait to see what happens next.

Thank you for reading
