Thanks to the success of Mrs Preston’s Enterprise project “Frozen Fridays”, the school was able to buy some clothes rails to help organise our uniform bank. These helpful boys and girls used their problem solving skills to help build them up.

1st December 2022 – On Thursday and Friday, the arborist and the council came to cut down trees that have made our playground unsafe and unusable. To keep things as eco-friendly as possible, the nursery and the school asked to keep the logs, wood chippings and get some stepping stones made so that nothing goes to waste.
The workers were very helpful and friendly and you can see the fun we had playing with our new wooden playground accessories over on Twitter.
Of course it’s a shame the trees had to be cut down, but we have made the best of the situation.

14th November 2022 – As part of the in-service day, the teachers all watched the film called The Letter which is all about Laudato Si and looking after our “common home” (Planet Earth):

11th November 2022 – Some of our P7 children were so helpful emptying our very heavy paper recycling bins into the big outdoor bins today. Empty bins should make it easier for everyone to get back into the habit of recycling paper.

28th October 2022 – We got a big uplift of electronic equipment that no longer works. This equipment has been disposed of through the WEEE Disposal system that North Lanarkshire Council uses. Properly disposing of your old electronic equipment is very important in looking after the planet – we don’t want it ending up in landfill and lots of parts of our old electronic equipment can be reused or recycled!

The Eco Team met to participate in the online training Turning Thoughts into Actions, Part 1 on Monday 24th October at 1.30 pm. This session covered what being an Eco-Committee means, the value in carrying out an Environmental Review and ways of approaching this element of the Eco-Schools programme.
The Eco Team discussed…
What we want our Eco School to look like:
– recycle everything
– continue doing what we’re doing
– bring back food bank donations
– make new things out of old things – *Reuse and repurpose
– no rubbish on the ground
What are we doing already?
– recycling pens
– recycling batteries
What needs to change?
– solar panels
– pick rubbish and make new things from it
– reuse paper as scrap
– learn how to use the paper bins properly
– make a game out of turning lights off!
– grow more of our own food
Environmental Review
We will carry out our environmental review so we can see what to improve, fix or change and why.
We will decide our Aims and Targets – the purpose of our work.
