P4-7 Choir Sneak Peek!

We have been working really hard during Choir to learn songs to perform at the end of term. Have a listen to a sneak peek of one of our favourites!

P4 Super School Kid Rap!

P4 have been learning poems, our favourite is the school kid rap! This poem has repetition,  rhyme, rhythm and onomatopoeia.

These are the lyrics:

THE SCHOOL KID RAP

Miss was at the black board writing with the chalk.                                         When suddenly she stopped in the middle of her talk.        She snapped her fingers snap! snap! snap!                                                     Pay attention children and I’ll teach you how to rap.                                       She picked up a pencil,  she started to tap

All together children, now clap! clap! clap!                                                       Just get the rhythm, just get the beat                                                                Drum it with your fingers, stamp it with your feet                                             That’s right children, keep in time.                                                                         Now we got the rhythm, all we need is the rhyme

This school is cool, Miss Grace is ace.                                                                   Strut your stuff with a smile on your face                                                        Snap those fingers, tap those toes,                                                                        Do it like they do it in the video shows                                                             Flap it,  snap it, clap, snap, clap,                                                                                Let’s all do the school  kid rap!!!!!!!!!!

P5/6 SYMMETRY

This week we have been studying lines of symmetry  in shapes and  in nature as well as learning how to create symmetrical pictures.  We did some research on the Monarch butterfly which is a beautiful symmetrical creature and created oil pastel drawings.  Using black and white card we also learned how to make positive/negative symmetrical pictures.

3 Former Glenmanor Pupils Perform at Area Head Teacher’s Meeting

Midnight Sketch

The band ‘Midnight Sketch’ performed their own version of ‘Live Forever’ by Oasis at the Area Head Teacher’s Meeting today, held in Chryston High School. I was delighted to see that 3 out of 4 of the girls were former Glenmanor pupils, Emma, Georgia and Hannah, who played while Hayley (formerly Stepps PS) sang beautifully. Well done!

I spoke to the girls about how the band was created. Hayley explained that she had worked with Emma to write their own songs and their music teacher, Mr Drysdale, had suggested that they form a band by recruiting and drummer and a pianist.  They asked Georgia and Hannah to join them and they formed the band ‘Midnight Sketch’.

They have performed at Chryston High Talent Show and Chilterns Rest and Retirement Home. They will perform at Chryston High Summer Concert on 16 June and I have invited them to perform at our Summer Service on 24 June.

We look forward to seeing and hearing you soon!

P7 Pupils Win National Robert Burns Art Competition!

We entered a National Robert Burns Federation Art Competiton in January where the pupils were required to create a drawing inspired by a Burns poem. In response to this challenge, Callum drew ‘Twa dugs’, Connor’s drawing was inspired by ‘To A Louse’ and Hazel drew a beautiful rose inspired by the poem ‘My Love Is Like a Red, Red Rose’ ‘The judge was so impressed with the level of competence that they were placed as follows – Callum (1st), Connor (2nd) and Hazel (3rd). Callum will be presented with the Toshio Namba trophy, all pupils will be given a certificate and the school will be presented with a £100 cheque for School Funds.

A Burns Federation representative will visit Glenmanor to make the presentations. Well done! What an outstanding achievement! Thanks to Ms Brunton who teaches the pupils and prepared them for the competition.
