Thank you so much to our wonderful fire fighters who visited our class today!
We learnt if your clothes go on fire you must … STOP … COVER YOUR FACE … DROP … AND ROLL!!
Dream Big, Work Hard, Shine Bright!
As part of our People Who Help Us topic PC Davie’s last call out as our Community Officer was to our class today… such a great loss! 🙁
He spoke to the children about his job and the children particularly enjoyed learning about his equipment. They even had Mrs Macindoe in handcuffs (I promise I have been good!)
We are really enjoying our Scotland topic and business is booming in our Tourist Information Office. (it is a popular choice for Purposeful play) The telephone is always answered very professionally .. “Good Afternoon, Tourist Information – how can I help you?”
We are enjoying lots of different art tasks using chalk, paints and collage. Look at our amazing Nessie and our kilts on the washing line!
We have loved ceilidh dancing for our weekly PE lessons and today finished them off with a Burns Party!
We had a special Scottish treat – some shortbread and Irn Bru (sugar free). We learnt how to say cheers in Scots – “Slainte!”
We finished off the day by brushing our teeth – after our “sweet” treat.
Look out for our amazing reports on Scotland – they are in our Snapshot Assessment jotters which will be sent out to you soon!
Another busy week in Primary 1. We have been learning about odd and even numbers – look at us in action.
We have learnt that all even numbers can be shared between two people equally!
Here we are working out if different numbers can be shared equally … if they can they are an even number – if not an odd number.
We love playing odd and even number games on the Smartboard.
This activity is sorting our numicon into odd and even numbers.
Playing cards are brilliant for maths. Here we are sorting them into even numbers 2,4,6,8 & 10 … and our odd numbers are put in the “odds” hoop.
Sorting our socks into pairs – and then counting the pairs, counting them up in twos – 2,4,6,8,10,12 ….
In the last few weeks we have been learning about patterns and symmetry in maths. Look at us in action and our lovely maths display!
We have painted patterns and winter symmetrical jumpers, made patterns with blocks and symmetrical patterns with numicon, we’ve drawn symmetrical patterns and even cut out and coloured in angels … it might be nearly Christmas but we’ve still been working hard! We must therefore all be on the “good” list with Santa!
Thank you to our parents who came to our Read, Write, Count classroom visit. Primary 1 read the book the called “The Bear in the Chair.”
The children then chose an purposeful play area to follow up their learning.
Painting table – I can paint a bear with flair on his chair!
Playdough – I can make a bear on a chair.
Construction – I can make a chair for the bear.
Finger gym – I can use scissors to cut out and stick a bear.
Well done everyone!
Primary 1 loves financial education …. look at all the great ways we have been learning!
We love our shop! It is a great way to play with money! We take turns being the customer or the cashier … and everyone wants a shot of speaking on the tannoy!
We play games our on Smartboard … they can be quite tricky and we have to think about our answers.
This is our sorting game. We began by sorting the coins into different colours – bronze, silver and gold. We know the gold ones are the best … they can buy us more things! We have now learnt to sort them into coin values – 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 & £2.
We are learning to add coins together … we work in pairs to get the correct answer.
There are some super money games on our iPads.
We have even put prices on our items in the shop now!
Look at our super money work on our wall! We have a coin number line to help us remember the value of each one.
A huge thank you to Debbie from the Bank of Scotland who came to talk to us about saving our pennies! We love our piggy banks!
Today the P7 buddies came to visit P1 to encourage the love of reading. We had four different literacy stations. The first one was peer read – P1 read their book first and then they chose a book for their buddy to read to them.
Station 2 was word splat! The children took turns in calling out our common words … then your partner has to hit it with the fly squatter.
Station 3 – Sound hunt. The P7s called out different sounds and the P1s had to find the matching card.
Station 4 – Phoneme boards. Let’s make some CVCs together.
We arrived into class today … to very sad news! The fairies sent us a letter to tell us that Pat is lost!
Dear boys and girls,
We really need your help! Pat has gone missing … he came to look for you last week and you weren’t there! He came back to the forest and was crying so much that he began to feel cold and tired as no fire would come out of his nose .. only bogies!! What can you do? We really miss him!
Lots of love
The fairies xx
Primary 1 decided to try and help they would make posters so everyone knows to look for him! Here is their wonderful work.
A huge thank you to our lovely P1 parents who came back to school this afternoon and tonight! We held Parental Literacy Workshops so they could learns ways that they can support their children with reading and writing.
They had to work really hard and even earned their children some dojos!
Well done to Emma & Ellis – your parents were our word making stars with an amazing 37 words in 2 minutes!! (extra dojos for you!)
Don’t forget if you need any extra resources or help … please just ASK!
In Primary 1 our topic to investigate during Health Week was to keep “SAFE”. Pat our Friendly Dragon set us a challenge on Day 1 – the Princesses were homeless and needed somewhere safe to live!
Over the past 2 days the children have been busy creating a beautiful new castle for them! We have also discussed “our homes” and the families who live “safely” inside.
This learning also links to UNICEF’s – Rights of the Child – Article 27 – Our right to shelter.
Work begins on making some colourful bricks for the interior of our castle and also some wood for the fire.
The inside looks brilliant – so cosy and we can cook our dinner.
Here is the outside …. it’s a little bit boring! What can we do?
Let’s make some bunting.

It’s looking better … now for the shields.
Fantastic work boys and girls!
