Primary 7 News
In primary 7 we have been learning about The Solar System. There are 8 planets in our solar system and we have made a display on our wall of the 8 planets in the order, closest to furthest from the sun. We  have been going to the back of the stage to watch clips about the solar system. We have learned so much about our solar system already!
In spelling we have been working on prefixs, suffixs and root words. Prefixs are letters that you put at the start of a root word ,which changes the meaning. Suffixs are also letters that you put after a root word. Finally root words are the word between prefixs and suffixs.
In Maths we have been doing lots of work on doubling, partioning and fact families. We have also been working on our big maths strategies. Also each day we have been doing our gimme 5’s which is a little booklet with questions that we do each morning.
In P.E we have been working on our fitness. We have been doing stations with activities such as sit ups, press ups, star jumps and squats. We have also been doing our fitness warm up to make sure our muscles are warmed up for our activities.
We are excited to learn so much more about Maths , Spelling and our Solar System. We have enjoyed Primary 7 already and we have just begun!
Homework 28/08/15-10/09/15
Leavers’ Assembly
Primary 7’s Learning
In Primary 7 maths we have been learning about pie charts. Pie charts are used to show percentages or fractions of a whole amount. Pie charts look like a pie cut into slices, pie charts are always cut into an even amount. We have also started learning about algebra. Algebra is when you have an equation that has numbers and letters in it and you have to work out what the letter stands for e.g. a+7+10 a=3.
Last week all the schools going to Chryston High went to a science event in the high school. The science event was about C.S.I and forensics. C.S.I are a group of forensic scientists that help solve crimes. Forensic scientists are people who come to a crime scene and look for evidence. They take the evidence back to their labs to analyse it and look for DNA or fingerprints. DNA is a unique code everyone has in their body, this can help find criminals. Fingerprints are little patterns we have on the tip of our
fingers, when someone touches an object they leave their fingerprint on it.
In language we have been reading a new book called Jammie Dodgers On the Run. It is about three boys that are gypsies. The book shows what it was like to be poor in the Victorian Times. The three boys are called Jem, Ned and Billy and their family is very poor so they go out every day trying to earn money by picking pockets, selling things to people and cheating rich people. We have been focusing on the visualisation strategy to help us understand the setting.
We have started a new media project called V.I.B this stands for Very Important Bear. In this project we will be making a mini movie about a teddy bear called Buddy. This movie will have 8 scenes and each scene must be 15 to 20 seconds long, the movie will be approximately 3 minutes long. We will start filming these movies within the next 3 weeks. We are all looking forward to making these films.

Our First Two Weeks Back!
P.E
In P.E these past weeks we have been working on tennis. We are learning about ball handling and how to keep it on our racket and make sure it doesn’t go everywhere. Some strokes in tennis are forehand, backhand, volleys, smashing and serving. The most powerful one is smashing as you do it at the net.
I.D.L
In I.D.L we have been learning about the different groups of animals. They can be classed as vertebrates and invertebrates. Â The different groups of vertebrates are mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish. We looked at pictures of different animals and matched them up with their name on a sheet. We also looked at what makes being that certain animal classed as that e.g mammals give birth rather than laying an egg.
Maths
In maths we have been looking at the median, the range, the mode and the mean. The mean is where you add all thee numbers up e.g 5+9+8+3+3+2+1+1=32 and then you divide it by how many numbers you have so it would be 32/8=4 so 4 would be the answer. Next is the median(middle). The median is where the number is the centre number but first u have to put the numbers in order. 6,9,4,3,7=3,4,6,7,9 and then the answer would be,=6 . The mode is next. The mode is a number that appears most in that pattern for example 1,1,2,2,3,3,3,4,4,6,7,8,9,9 the most common is=3. The range is where you take the biggest number away from the smallest example 12,92,81,100,52,11 you would do the sum 100-11=89 .
High School Visit
Yesterday a woman called Leonthoea came to see us. She was a personal support teacher and we could go and talk to her if we were worried about anything. She let us make up a first year student. Ours was called Jake and he was very smart. He also got bullied. Then at the end she told us about coming to school on the last week of the summer holidays for Chryston High summer sizzler. At first nobody wanted to go because it was going to school in the holidays! But then she showed us a video and everybody wants to come! We even get to go to the safari park!
Language
In language we have started a new book called ‘Jammy Dodgers on the Run’. We have been looking at different strategies to help us like: Â Prior Knowledge, Metalinguistics, Main Events/ideas, Summary, Visualisation and Inference. We are all loving our new book.
Scottish Opera
Last Friday, three people from the Scottish Opera came to our school. We put on a great performance, over 50 people came to see us! We had to wear these silly costumes that made us feel really hot. In total we sang about 8 songs. It was a great performance and the whole class really enjoyed taking part in this amazing experience!  By Emma and Neve!    ÂWhat P7 Have Learned This Week
Here we are making out real life sized human bodies!! We will post our completed ones very soon. Maths-
In maths we have been learning about percentages, they are like decimals and fractions (e.g. 0.35 = 35%). We have done a page in the maths textbook about it, there was squares that had 100 smaller squares like a grid pattern, there was an amount of squares highlighted and we had to write them in percentages (e.g. if a square had 40 squares highlighted it would be 40% of the square is highlighted.)
Science-
Our new topic it about biodiversity, biodiversity is the types categories that plants and animals are grouped into like lions are mammals and spiders are insects. We found out that plants are involved in biodiversity, there are more than 2 kingdoms of living things, there are 5 including plants, animals, fungi, protoctista and prokaryote.
Writing-
We have been writing a report about Hitler and the holocaust. We wrote Hitlers life, Â the Nazi’s and Memorial day. This piece of writing is last we will do relating to our world war two topic.
Health
For the last few weeks we have been combining out art skills with our learning from our drugs topic. We drew bodies and the organs then we wrote the effects that different drugs can have.
