Let’s Get Scientific

Primary 2/3 have all turned into crazy scientists this week. We have started an experiment to see what type of seed grows the quickest and the tallest. We used cress, sunflower and runner bean seeds. Here are some pictures of us doing this…

Here are some of our predictions:

I think the sunflower seeds will grow the tallest and the cress will grow the quickest. (Angus Ritchie)

I think the sunflower will grow the tallest and the runner beans will grow the fastest. (Cate Dougherty)

I also think the sunflower seeds will grow the tallest and the cress seeds will grow the quickest. (Jordan Kirk)

I think that the runner bean will grow the tallest and the cress seeds will grow the quickest. (Lorna Robertson)

We are so excited to find out if any of our predictions are correct!! Watch this space…

What’s the Time Mr Wolf?

The P2/3’s are finding out all about telling the time. There are lots of different things we know about time:

– If the minute hand is at 6 the time is half past the hour (Max Clarke)

– When the hand minute hand is pointing at 12 it is an o’clock time (Keavie Holliday)

– When the minutes hand is at 9 it is quarter to the hour (Evan Reilly)

– When the big hand is at 3 it is quarter past the hour (Orla Roarty)

– Each section of the clock is five minutes – so if we want to know the time we can count in 5’s (Charlie Martin)

Literacy Week – Winnie the Witch

Last week was such a MAGICAL week in the P2/3 classroom. We got up to lots of fun activities!!!

We made puppets, wizard  and witches hats, and even our own magic potions and spells!!! We also had the chance to dress up as Wilber, Winnie and Auntie Aggie to act out one of the wonderful stories.

One of our favourite tasks was using ComicLife on the iPads. We can’t wait to be able  to use them again in our learning!!!

Our Class Assembly

We really hope you enjoyed our class assembly. Thank you for coming to watch us and for being a great audience. Thank you to everyone who left a comment in the Chryston comments collection. They made us feel very happy and proud of ourselves.

For those of you who were not able to make it, not to worry…we have lots of photographs we can share with you!!!!

Rain, Rain, Rain…

What a wet and windy week we’ve had!!! We thought because of all this wet weather, we could make some rain gauges in our co-op groups. If anyone would like to make one, please let us know…we’ve written some fantastic instructions for how to make one.

The rain gauges are helping us to measure the rain in cm’s. We are going out to check them over 2 weeks to see what week had the most amount of rain. Could it possibly get any wetter than this week?…We’ve already measured one that had 7 cm’s of rain!!!

We were also very lucky this week as we got to visit Chryston library. We learned where to find some really interesting Chapter books. They are the ones with the blue label on them. Were really looking forward to reading some of them. The Librarian read some fantastically funny books. They were called Aliens Love Underpants Saves the World, and The Loon on The Moon. The Loon on the Moon was our favourite…especially the part where the aliens bottoms flew off!!!

It’s All About the Weather!!!

We have been recording the weather for every day of the week. We all have our own weather diaries. Some groups are recording weather in the morning, and some record the afternoons weather.

We have also worked in our co-op groups to make our own weather forecast, using the Flip camera to record them! We all took different roles – a reporter, a recorder and a resource collector. We had great fun doing this!!!

In the gym hall, we have been practising creative dance all about the wintery weather. We’ve been using our imagination to act out and pretend the things we would do on a super snowy day…

Thanks for reading ;)!!!

Our Super Trip to Summerlee

When we arrived, we all got to have a ride on the tram. Kali, Beth, Aimee and Greg all got to sit in the drivers seat! We all thought it was marvelous to experience how our Grans might have got around when they were younger.

Then we went to visit miners row and seen what houses were like in the 50’s and 60’s.

The best part of the day was our amazing workshop all about when Gran went dancing. We danced the YMCA, the twist, and the jive. it was great fun! The girls had to wear beautiful skirts which were perfect for twirling, and the boys had really cool teddy boy jackets to wear…

Another busy week…

Hello again, and welcome to our second blog. Firstly we would like to thank those of you who commented on our blog. Mrs Rae, we would love to come and share our learning about addition!

This week we are learning the ‘au’ sound. We have found this tricky because it souds just like the ‘aw’!

We started our new topic in maths…money. We can recognise coins to £2, order them from smallest to largest, and from the most to least amount.

We all decided on cool co-op group names this week. Working in our co-op groups has allowed for us to learn lots more about each other!! It has been great fun. Here are the cool names we made for our groups…The Super Strawbs, The Speedy Bikes, Super Beach, Rocking Rugby Balls and Strawberry vs Cobra!!!!!

Look at us being brave doing a forward roll across the high horse…

Thanks for visiting. Bye for now!
