Day 2 Beat The Streets

Today for health week we were thinking about what makes a good friend. We enjoyed using our skills in instruction writing to write our own recipe for a good friend.

This afternoon Primary 1 all went out to beat the streets. We found both of the boxes in our area. We even had time to play at the park on the way back. It was a great afternoon!

Day 1 of Health Week

Today is the start of Chryston Primary’s Health Week. Primary 1 were asked to bring their bikes and scooters to school today if they wanted to.  After lunch we went into the playground with Primary 2 to have a go on our bikes and scooters.

It was so important to wear our helmets when we are on our bikes to protect our heads. Some of us fell off but there were no tears and our helmets did the trick because there were no sore heads.

We enjoyed getting to go out on our bikes and scooters at school today. We thought it was fun, awesome, great and a bit unusual.  We all had a great time.

Some of us didn’t have our bikes or scooters but we were still keeping very active. We went into the gym hall to play lots of games.  We were playing cops and robbers, shark attack and tig.  We thought this was fun, awesome and fantastic.

Thank you to Primary 2 for having fun with us for health week this afternoon.  We will share more of our learning from health week later in the week.

Living Things

Our topic at the moment is living things. Percy wanted us to learn how to look after living things.  He set us the challenge to plant some flowers and look after them.

On Thursday we learned what plants needed to grow and be healthy. They need water, light, air, soil and space.

Later in the afternoon we went outside to draw pictures of the living things we observed in our playground. We even went to see Primary 2’s butterflies being released.

Groups of 10 children at a time planted with Mrs Noble and Mrs Hansen. First we put soil into the pots using trowels.  Then we picked our flowers and put them in making sure there was space between them.  The last thing we had to do was cover the roots with more soil.  Mrs Noble said it was like tucking it in to bed.

Now we must remember to water our plants. We have decided that 4 children should water our plants each day.  We think it is fair if 2 children from each class get a turn each day.  We are going to look at them and see how well they are growing.  We will post some more photos when they get a bit bigger.

All About Weight

When we measure weight we are finding out how heavy something is.

We have been using some new words today they were heavier, lighter and balanced.

We have been using some new equipment. We have been using scales and bobbins.  The bobbins were our non-standard unit of measurement.

Things we have learned today:

Liam – I thought that the puppets would be very light but the puppets were heavier than the bobbins.

Jay – The paint was so heavy it almost broke the scale.

All About Length

In maths we have been learning about measure. We have been learning to measure length.  We know this is finding the size of something.

When we measure length we might use words like narrow, long, short, tall, tiny, wide and lots more.

We have measured length using paper clips, playdoh, cubes, lego bricks and today we measured using our hands.

We need to remember to keep each object in a straight line, all the objects must be the same size, not to leave spaces or overlap and measure form the very start to the very end.

We have had fun learning all about length!

The Jungle Book Performance

This morning we went to see a play in our gym hall. The play was telling us the story of The Jungle Book.  There were actors and some of Chryston Primary’s own children had special parts to play.  We all had jobs to do during the show.  We had to make the noises for the wolves and also learned the songs so we could join in.

Ryan – My favourite part was the monkeys.

Conor – I liked it when the tiger and Mowgli were fighting.

Max – I liked when they tied Mowgli up.

Sophie – My favourite part was when the deer said that the water was theirs.

Evie – I liked it when the monkeys played limbo.

Emily – I liked it when Mowgli jumped on the bears back because it was funny.

Britney- I liked it when the monkeys were dancing and wiggling their bottoms.

We all thought that the performance today was really good!

Tennis Skills

Today all of Primary 1 enjoyed some sunny weather. We worked in teams to practise some of the skills we have been using in our tennis learning.  These skills include fast feet, speed, balance, aiming for a target and using a ball and racket. We had great fun!

Our School Trip

Today Primary 1 went to the Riverside Museum and the Tallship.  We went on a very big, fast bus to get there.  We had to buckle up to stay safe.  We found out who our partner for the day was so that we could help to look after one another.  Then we found out which adult’s group we were going to be in.

At the transport museum we visited lots of old shops.  We went on the subway.  We saw a broken car because it had been in an accident.  We saw police cars and fire engines. We saw lots of different kinds of transport like bikes, trains, boats and cars.

On board the tallship we got to steer the captains wheel.  We were on the lookout for the 20 rats an 1 lazy cat. We scrubbed the decks.  We saw where the captain would have lived. We got to pretend to be pirates in the play area and we saw lots of pirate bunk beds.

We think our trip was fantastic and great.  We all had lots of fun.  Mrs Noble and Miss Kinloch thought that we were all really really good.  We showed the Riverside Museum and the Tallship how wonderful children from Chryston Primary can behave.

Maths Outside!

Today we were learning in a different way. We were learning about our subtraction in the playground because it was a beautiful day.

We were working in groups today. We had to work together to do lots of sums in the playground.  We had a list of subtraction sums, cones or bean bags, giant chalk and a hula hoop.

The first number in the sum tells you the number that you are starting with. The next person had to take away the next number in the sum.  The third person had to write the sum and their group had to help them to find the answer by counting what was left.  The last person had to remember to tidy up so that we were ready for the next sum.

Orlagh – It was fantastic.

Emily – It was wonderful.

Alfie – We had to make sure we were all working on the right one.

Abigail – It was nice.

Andrew – It was amazing drawing them.

Callan – It was epic running about to get the cones.

Zara – We had to collect the bean bags and I liked doing that.

Red Nose Day

Today is Red Nose Day!  Today is Comic Relief day.  We are raising money for charity.  We brought £1 each so that we could dress in red today.  Lots of us came to school with our red noses on and we all looked great!

This morning we made a red nose day biscuit.  Each biscuit had icing on them.  We decorated them with sweeties, marshmallows, sprinkles and lots of other things.  When we finished making our red nose day biscuits we got to eat them up.  They were brilliant and yummy!

We designed our own red noses.  This was a competition.  One of our committees is going to judge them and choose a winner who will get a prize.  Our designs were fantabulous!  We also did some writing in our daily writing jotters.

We even went on a red nose day adventure!  The whole of Primary 1 played the interactive red nose game.  Unfortunately the end of the story would not work for us so we will try to watch this another time.

We have all really enjoyed Red Nose Day!
