Gym

We have been learning about different ways to slide in gym. We can slide on our backs, tummies, shoulders, knees, bottoms, sides and our feet.

Sliding is moving from one place to another without lifting a certain part of your body.

We also learned different ways to jump. We had fun showing different jumping.

We have started to bring out some equipment to use for our gymnastics. We used benches this week.

We warmed up with a new game called banana tig! It was fun!

Adding

We have been learning to add. Adding means finding the total of two sets. We have been doing lots of different games to give us practise and help us to get better.

We used a game on the smart board where we counted ladybirds on leaves.

We played a game with two sacks of toys that we added together.

Another station we use cubes to help us make the story of 5.

You can ask us story of 5 questions at home…we have been practising hard in class!!

5+0=5
4+1=5
3+2=5
2+3=5

Happy New Year

Wow, what a quick holiday! We all had a great time over Christmas and enjoying sharing our holiday news yesterday! Some of our favourite parts of the holidays were playing with cousins, eating dinner with families and having long lies!

We are looking forward to bringing you lots of learning news on our blog! Please leave us comments, we love reading them!

Fun activities

We did some language games today.

One of the games we had to look at the picture and write the word. E picture might have been a pen so we blended our letters and sounded out pen. (Elli)

Another game was looking at the picture and matching the first sound to the right picture. (Evie)

One game gave us words and picture and we could copy the word and practise our handwriting. (Lewis)

The final game was the competition. We had to try to be the quickest team to sort the crackers into the right alphabet order, then we had to match the picture to the right cracker. (Ethan)

We had to work at a team and include everyone. We had lots of fun and it helped to practise our letter sounds.

Santa’s workshop

We have been having lots of fun learning in our class. We have made our classroom into santa’s workshop. One of the stations we can do it wrapping presents for Santa to put on his sleigh. We used our learning about shapes to design presents that boys and girls might like at Christmas time. We can go to the toys hop and there we learn to buy stuff. There are shopping lists and money and we can add prices together. There is a station where we can design and write a Christmas card.

Jaymi – I like learning in Santa’s workshop.

Michael – I loved designing a card.

Erin – I am looking forward to designing a card and writing a card.

David – I feel good when I come into the classroom because it is Christmassy and colourful!

Robot Rumpus

This week we have been reading a book called Robot Rumpus by an author called Ross Collins. We did lots of activities using the book.

Mrs MacDonald read us the book but we also got to see the author reading e story for us on the smart board.

As a homework task some of us made robots…we have them in the class and they are brilliant. We also wrote a story about what we would like a robot to do for us!

We did some drama and pretended to be robots.

We thought about healthy food to eat so we could tell cook-bot and he could make healthy meals.

We wrote review of our favourite part of the story. Lots of us found the story really funny.
