Jumpstart Jonny

image image imageYesterday in PE we did some dancing routines to Jumpstart Jonny.  He is on the internet and showed us how to exercise to music.  The songs were really good and fun.  We felt hot, out of breath, our hearts were besting faster and we were tired – all signs we were exercising well!  We had great fun singing and dancing along.  We also did the cool down to a song from the lion king.  A cool down is important too!

Fruit kebabs

We have been learning how to keep our bodies healthy through food and exercise.  On Monday we made delicious fruit kebabs.  First we needed to remember the getting ready routine we learned last week.  We had to tie hair back, put aprons on, wash hands with soap and make sure the table we were using was cleaned with cleaner.

We used our bridge cut and claw cut to cut up the fruit to put on our kebabs.

They were yummy!

Our new topic

image image image image image image image image image

We started a new topic which is all about keeping healthy.

We talked about moving and thought of different ways we move without thinking about it.  Things like, climbing trees, playing, scootering to school, even just walking to go from one place to another!

We mimed some movements then we played a game where one person acted a movement and the others in the group guessed what we were doing.

Later in the week we started talking about healthy fruit.  We looks at the fruit and we learned where it came from.  Erin told us that the fruit we had needed to come from a hot country.

Our pineapple and bananas came from Costa Rico which is really far away….all the way over the sea in the same direction as America!  Our mango came from near there too, a country called Peru.  The oranges came from Spain and the Kiwi from Italy.

Next Mrs MacDonald showed us how to cut them up (we are going to do it next week!), and we got to taste them….mmmmmm!

Maths

This week we have been learning about time.  We learned o’clock times.  O’clock times means the big hand needs to point to the 12.  The big hand is called the minute hand.  The little hand is called the hour hand.

If the time is 3 o’clock, the big hand points to the 12 and the little hand points to the 3.

Look at us practising outside!

Fair trade

We started our learning about fair trade today by using fair trade chocolate to make top hats to sell at our fundraiser tomorrow.

First we we had to wash our hands.  Then we put out the paper cases.  Next we broke up the chocolate and melted it in the microwave.  Then we put some chocolate in a paper case, added a marshmallow and then put a smartie on top!

After break we had a whole school assembly and a lady from the Co-op came to tell us all about things they sell that are fair trade.  They sell lots of fair  trade things like bananas, chocolate and coffee.

In the afternoon we learned about what fair trade means.  It means the people who work hard growing things get a fair amount of money. This means they can look after their family, send their children to school and use some money to help their business.  This makes them happy!

we made some fair trade products in art using collage!

Drama

Our reading group read the story of Pirate Pete keeps fit.  In the story Pirate Pete can’t button up his trousers. His tummy was too big.  Beaky the parrot helped Pirate Pete by showing him some exercises.  After he did his exercises he could button up his trousers.  But then he ripped his trousers at the bottom and we saw his green spotty underpants.

After we read the story we acted it out.  We showed our little shows to the rest of the class.

We thought their shows were funny.

I liked when his trousers got ripped. The shows made me laugh.

The actors and actresses had to be nice and clear when speaking.

The audience had to watch and listen carefully.

Our week

Wow, what a week…we’ve been busy bees in P1.

At the start of the week we planted seeds as part of our living things topic.  We learned what the seeds would need to survive and wrote about it.  We know  that the seeds will need water, light and air to grow and survive.  We also thought they would need our love and care!

we also started learning about symmetry in maths.  We made symmetrical butterflies for our living things wall by painting one wing of the butterfly then folding it over to make the other wing exactly the same.  Symmetry is like matching only the other way round.  The two sides are the same but one will be back to front of the other.  We also made symmetry patterns with pegs and with lots of art materials.

At the end of the week we were printing with the bottom of bottles.  We made lovely spring blossoms using beautiful spring colours.  They are up in our classroom and it looks very spring like!

this morning we watched the eclipse with P1/2.  It looked like the sun was actually the moon.  It looked like it was night time but it wasn’t!  We then used pastels to draw pictures of the eclipse!

Directions

We have been learning about directions. We know forwards and backwards, left and right. We know how to use the Beebots. Beebots have buttons on them to press go and it drives. It can go sideways and backwards and forwards. You need to press left and right, forwards and backwards and go to make it move the way you want it to go and it goes on a journey. There’s also a pause button and a stop button too. You need to clear the journeys before you start another one.

We made new Beebot jackets for them.

Homework

The homework this time is a little different.  We have a two week sheet with reading, spelling, learn-it’s and a longer writing task.  The writing task is designed to take you longer, you will need to think hard and remember all the things we have learned about writing in class.
