Thinking of applying for a degree programme in Medicine or Dentistry for August 2022? Did you know that you a have to sit and pass an additional assessment to allow you to apply? The UCAT is a mandatory admissions test used by UK Universities for entry to their medical and dental degree programmes.

You must sit the UCAT this year if you are applying for 2022 entry to one of our universities (applying through UCAS this October).

Registration for UCAT 2021 opens on 2 June 2021 and booking opens at the end of June. Testing takes place between 26th July – 29 September 2021.

There are three main steps to booking your test:

Register and create a web account.  This generates a unique Candidate ID which you will need to book your test.

Apply for any Access Arrangements if you currently receive these in public exams, and / or a Bursary (for candidates in financial need) if you are eligible.  See more information about these below.

Book your test for a convenient time, and remember to check well ahead of time that you meet our ID requirements.

The Glasgow School of Art Widening Participation Programme

Widening participation to Higher Education is a priority for the Scottish Government which seeks to ensure that everyone, regardless of their social or financial circumstances, has an equal chance to study at university. The Glasgow School of Art receives funding from the Scottish Government via the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) to deliver Widening Participation (WP) activities free of charge for eligible secondary school pupils.

The Glasgow School of Art offer a number of courses and special events for eligible S4, S5 and S6 pupils who are interested in studying fine art, design or architecture programmes when they finish secondary school. All activities are designed to help pupils make informed decisions about future study and to prepare for an application to The Glasgow School of Art or visual creative courses at other colleges and universities.

Secondary school pupils who meet one or more of the following criteria are now eligible:

  • live in an SIMD20 or SIMD40 priority postcode area
  • are care experienced
  • attend a FOCUS West school
  • are a young carer
  • are estranged from their family
  • are a refugee or asylum seeker

Information about the courses running this year are available to view on the Glasgow School of Art website.

To register pupils should email wp@gsa.ac.uk as soon as possible in order to check their eligibility and book a place on one of our online courses. Pupils should also advise Mr Baird of their registration. Places on all courses are limited and it is anticipated that courses will fill up quickly, so pupils will need to contact us as soon as possible in order to secure a place. There are also a number of online activities that we can share with eligible pupils who register with now and us over the summer. New S4-S6 pupils are encouraged to contact us as soon as possible at wp@gsa.ac.uk to receive a copy of these.

Focus West have presented a workbook for all S4 Pupils to help them consider what options are available to them when they leave school. This is a really useful booklet and all S4 pupils should try to attempt the activities. The booklet can be downloaded here:

Additionally, below is a link to a survey monkey poll which Focus West also would appreciate being completed by pupils to provide them with feedback for these materials.
