2022-2023
Vision Schools Award – Level 1
We were absolutely thrilled to be awarded our Level 1 Vision Schools Award for Holocaust Education in February – only the second school in North Lanarkshire to do so. Our current and previous Ambassadors, along with Miss Stirling and Mr McConnachie, attended a ceremony at the Scottish Parliament to officially be recognised.
This year’s Ambassadors have been on an extraordinary Lessons From Auschwitz journey – through displays, whole school initiatives, their trip to Auschwitz and even speaking at the Scottish Parliament! We are so proud of them and all their hard work – see below.
2021-2022
This year’s S5 Ambassadors have begun completing work on their Lessons From Auschwitz journey – they’ve been working really hard! Click here to see a demonstration of their learning so far.
They have also begun work on a display in school to help educate our learners about the Holocaust.
Holocaust Memorial Day 2022
This year’s ambassadors organised a whole school event on Holocaust Memorial Day through a virtual assembly during registration. Each pupil was educated on the Holocaust itself and then each pupil designed their own flame which then contributed to the whole display above and the ceremony below.
Holocaust Memorial Ceremony
Our ambassadors organised an outdoor ceremony to mark Holocaust Memorial Day which included:
- pupils reading out speeches and poems
- pupils playing traditional Jewish music
- use of the candle flames from our whole school activity
Staff, pupils and members of our local community such as Community Action Newarthill and YAMS were in attendance to mark the event.
Pupils from our PFSC and members of the local community also contributed painted pebbles as a mark of remembrance.
This display can be seen outside the front of the school at the drop off area.
Holocaust Education
Here at Brannock High School we are committed to delivering a sustained approach to Holocaust Education.
We currently deliver Holocaust Education within our Social Subjects and RMPS Faculty, as well as our English and Drama departments. Some of our staff have taken part in training courses related to Holocaust Education such as the courses put on by the Holocaust Educational Trust.
As a school we encourage responsible citizenship through the issues raised in Holocaust Education and we make many links with some of our other commitments such as Rights Respecting School and the LGBT Charter Award that our school holds.
We have taken part in the lessons from Auschwitz Programme for a number of years with many of our students embarking on trips to Auschwitz, Poland. These pupils, now LFA Ambassadors, have undertaken a whole host of work towards ensuring the lessons of the Holocaust are never forgotten. This work has involved delivering lessons to Primary 7s at our feeder primary schools, delivering lessons to younger high school pupils, leading whole staff presentations, delivering in house staff CPD events and working on events to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. You can see them at work below:

Our 2020 Ambassadors delivering a lesson to P7s at Holytown Primary School.
Our 2020 Ambassadors also delivered a session to our new S1 during one of our P7 transition days.
We take pride in the amazing work our ambassadors do – this is often shared on Twitter where they were recognised by the Holocaust Educational Trust for their brilliant ideas. You can find out more about the Holocaust Educational trust by clicking the link above or checking out their Twitter.
This year our S6 Ambassadors are – Summer Rennie, Jenna Wilson and Alina Asghar. Our S5 Amabassadors are – Jasmine Crawford, Sophie Menzies and Sam Kirkpatrick. Watch this space for updates on our journey to improve Holocaust Education and embed it across the curriculum at Brannock High School.
