Brannock English department is committed to providing all learners with a literary experience which is both engaging and rewarding.

What do you study in English?

All first, second and third year pupils will undertake an English and Literacy course that focuses on the key components of Talking,
Listening, Reading and Writing.
Reading skills are an essential element in accessing the curriculum. You can work on building reading skills through reading regularly.

S1 English

S2 English

S3 English

SQA English

These courses are designed to enrich the experience of candidates through the equally weighted study of language and literature and to develop the skills of understanding and communicating.

To gain the overall award, the learner must complete a portfolio worth 30% of their final grade before the exam. Additionally, they must successfully pass a talk assessment. Pupils’ attainment and targets will be continuously monitored through regular coursework both in class and home learning assignments.

National English

Progression to National 5 English requires a National 4 full course award or level 4 in the BGE. Progression to National 4 English requires National 3 course award or Level 3 in the BGE.

Higher English

Progression to Higher level requires a National 5 pass at A, B or C.

Classic novels that are no longer in copyright are available as eBooks for free. Why not write down 5 novels that you would like to read and try to work through the list?
This website has numerous favourites of ours, ‘Little Women’, ‘Treasure Island’, ‘Call of the wild’…..

DC comics are available to read for free online, why not read them here, and then try to make your own comic? Once you’ve made your own comic, share it with us!

Writing	Talk and Listening
Make your own RPG game, think about the importance of dialogue for characterisation and themes.	1.Keep on learning new topics at Ted Talk. Try to highlight the key points of what you have learned by making a Powerpoint on GLOW.
2. Write a blog on the topic of your choice. Whether it is based on hobbies or experience, you decide!	2. Visit BBC Podcast and listen to a range of Podcasts!
