Rookie Rockstars

A reminder that next week children from all classes will be involved in Rookie Rockstars activities during the school day and preparing a concert for the following week’s evening performances on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th of March. World Book Day Assembly

Gala Committee Announcement Coming Shortly…

During today’s assembly there was a special draw to pick our Viewpark Gala Day representatives. This year, Aitkenhead will be represented by the Gala Queen, Champion, two ladies in waiting, a flowergirl and a crown bearer. We had some very excited boys and girls who I bet can’t wait to tell their families tonight. We will announce their names on here shortly!

Primary 3 and 4 Golden Time

This term primary 3 and 4 joined together to enjoy golden time. Each week children can choose from arts and crafts, i-pads, games, library, lego, magnetics or an active activity with Mrs Maitland outside or in the hall. The boys and girls have loved visiting the different classrooms and making new friends. Here are some photographs of what they chose this week.

Education City

We have purchased a subscription for an online education resource, called Education City. Children have been issued with usernames and passwords to access this fantastic resource at home. They will have access to songs and interactive games to support their learning across a wide range of curricular areas including literacy, numeracy, french, spanish, science etc. Here is the link to the website. Rookie Rockstars to Visit Aitkenhead!

Rookie Rockstars will be bringing their exciting programme to the school on Monday 6th March 2017. Rookie Rockstars is an initiative that was created to give children the opportunity to work with professional musicians to learn original songs, record a CD and perform in a fantastic concert. The programme covers key areas of the Curriculum for Excellence: Health and Wellbeing, Expressive Arts, Moral Education, Literacy, Technologies and more. Children participate

Primary 4 Traffic Survey

Last week Primary 4 took learning outdoors when they conducted a traffic survey on Old Edinburgh Road.  They used the data they collected as part of their information handling topic.  The children were accompanied by Mrs Russell and Mrs Moran who thought they looked very official with their clip boards and were very impressed by how serious the children took their role.  Well done Primary 4 you did a great job!

Primary 3 – Open For Business

Primary 3 were so excited this week when their Scottish souvenir shop and museum opened for business. Children have enjoyed learning about objects from the past, guessing what they could be and what they were used for and comparing them to objects we have now. Primary 1 are planting!

As part of their science topic ‘Planting and Growing’ Primary 1 planted sunflower seeds last week. The children were very excited  and now have to care for them to help them grow.
