St. Bernadette’s Primary School

December 2014

Welcome to St. Bernadette’s December Newsletter!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are now well into December and our Christmas preparations are underway.  We have a very busy month ahead and I would ask you to take note of all the important events and activities going on.

Christmas Fair

Many thanks, to all who helped and supported our Christmas Fair.  It was a great success raising in excess of £1600 for the PTA funds.  All money raised goes to support the children throughout the year in a number of ways.

Advent

Advent services on Mondays are very important in keeping us focussed on the true meaning of Christmas throughout this busy time.

Christmas Show

Preparations for our Christmas Show “Aladdin Trouble” are now in full swing!  The children and staff are working very hard to ensure we can be at our best for the performances on Wednesday 10th at 1.15pm and on Thursday 11th at 7pm.  Children should come to school at 6.15pm for the evening performance and should be collected at 8.30pm.  There are still tickets available for sale from the school office.  £3 for adults and £1 for children.

Primary 1 & Primary 2 Nativity is on Friday 12th December at 2.00pm.  There are no tickets for this performance, however, you may wish to make a donation at the door.

Carol Singers

Room 7 will visit Avondale Care home to entertain the residents on Monday 15th December following the Pantomime.

Christmas Parties

Primary 1-3 – Thursday 18th December 1-3pm

Primary 4-7 – Friday 19th December 1-3pm

Lunch time will be from 12 noon to 12.45 for this whole week.

Parent Council Fundraising Group

The next meeting of the Fundraising Group is on Wednesday 17th December at 6pm in the Moorings.  New members and those who can help out at any of our events are always welcome.

Please see attached Fundraising Group Newsletter.

Christmas Holiday

The school will finish on Tuesday 23rd December at 2.30pm.  Please note this early finish time.  All children are expected to be in school up until and including this last day.  School restarts on Monday 5th January 2015 at 9am.

August 2015 P1 Registration

Parents of children due to enrol for school for August 2015 should bring their child to school during the week beginning 12th January 2015.  A reminder will be sent nearer the time of days and times and there will be notices in the church and local shops.  The local nurseries will also have this information.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

On behalf of all the staff in St. Bernadette’s I would like to wish you all a very happy and holy Christmas with every best wish for 2015.

Best Regards,

Mrs Boyle

St. Bernadette’s Primary School

Dear Parent/Carer,

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) recently merged with the Parent Council and we are now called the Parent Council Fundraising Group.   Following this change we thought this would be a great opportunity to update you on our activities over the past year:

  • Pantomime:  For this year there will be a Pantomime in the School for every child to enjoy.  This is at a cost of £600.  In the past we have taken the children to the Pantomime at the Civic Centre and with sufficient fundraising we hope to be able to do this again next year.
  • Halloween/End of Term Discos:  These are now a firm fixture in the St Bernadette’s calendar and are very much enjoyed by the children (and Chris the DJ!).  We hope to continue to support these discos for the children.
  • Graduation:  The P7 Leavers’ Mass is such an important event in the lives our children and we are always proud to be able to support this by providing ties for the children and supplying a cake and buffet to help them celebrate their transition from Primary to Secondary School.
  • Contribution for Kilbowie tuck shop: We provide a contribution of £5 per child towards their pocket money for tuck shop.  We hear this is greatly received!
  • Playground Improvement Fund.  We contributed towards the shortfall for the Playground Improvement Fund and we are always happy to support important initiatives like this which benefit the children directly.
  • Christmas Fair and Christmas Parties:  Thanks to your support we raised £1600 this year, which is a great total, but we couldn’t achieve this without the support of the family, friends and staff of St Bernadette’s.  We also provide every child with a Christmas gift at the School Christmas parties.
  • Family Night:  Fun for all the family with Chris the DJ, games, dancing and raffles.  There will be a family night on Friday 27th February 2015 in the Chapel Hall.   More information and tickets will be available nearer the time.  We hope to see you there.
  • Christmas Coffee morning: Sunday 21st December in the Chapel Hall after 11am Mass.  The School Choir will perform.  Donations of home baking would be welcomed.  Please come along and support us.
  • Frozen Sing-along: Sunday 21 December at 1.30pm in the Chapel Hall: Tickets for the sing-along will be on sale at the school shows this week (Wednesday 10th & Thursday 11th December) and at P1 & 2 Nativity on Friday 12th December.  Tickets will also be available through the School Office from week beginning 15 December.  Please come along and join us for this fun afternoon of singing our favourite songs from Frozen.  Tickets for refreshments cost £2 for Adults and £1 for children.

We would like to thank you all for your continued support throughout the year.  As you can see all monies raised directly benefit every child in the School.  In particular we would like to thank you for your help in selling football cards which helped us raise over £300.  We always welcome new fundraising ideas and new members to help us.  Please see any member of the Fundraising Group.  Your Fundraising Group needs you.

With best wishes for Christmas and New Year.

The Parent Council Fundraising Group
