Primary 6

Welcome

Hello! Primary 6 have had a great start to the new school year. All of the pupils have settled back into school life very quickly and are enjoying being out in the modular units this year. The pupils have taken on the responsibilities of being higher up the school with some of our children being playground buddies, reading ambassadors, digital leaders and some will be becoming vice-captains of our houses. The children have all come in with a great attitude to school and have agreed to approach each task this year with a growth mindset and we cannot wait to see what Primary 6 will achieve this year!

Literacy
Within literacy we have made a great start to the year by using the movie Zootropolis as a stimulus to help develop our skills to improve our writing. We have been particularly good at skimming and scanning for relevant information and using these notes to add detail to our writing, particularly when creating character profiles. A specific focus for us has been on using our core targets and continuing to proof-read and edit our work to ensure we are trying to up-level our writing.

Numeracy
We have started off the year by looking at different addition and subtraction strategies within number talks to improve our mental agility. We will soon be  moving on to developing similar strategies within division and multiplication.
Our topic of fractions has just begun, and the class are really enjoying doing fractions in a range of different ways (one of our favourites has been making lego fractions!).

Reminders
Our Teams page is up and running, and it is here that any additional information regarding the class will be updated. Our PE days are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children should come wearing a school jumper/polo shirt and can wear leggings/shorts or joggers. Children should bring water for during lessons and juice should be kept for snack and lunch time.

Topic
This term our topic will be the Victorians.7 We will be looking at what life was like in the Victorian era and comparing it to what life is like now. We even plan on having a Victorian themed day near the end of our topic!

Expressive Arts
This term we will be focusing on both drama and art. We will be using the Victorians as a stimulus for both of these.
