Jinglebell Jukebox Pictures

On Thursday 11th December  the children in Primaries 1 to 7 performed two excellent performances of their Christmas concerts to parents and visitors. Primaries 2 to 7 performed in the musical ‘Jingle Bell Jukebox’, singing many old time Christmas favourites such as ‘Let it Snow’, ‘Frosty the Snowman’ and ‘ Jinglebell Rock’. Primary 1 gave a spectacular performance of the nativity ‘What a Star’.   The children enjoyed singing and performing in front of two sell out audiences and it has put everyone in the Christmas spirit!  Well done everyone!

Children In Need 2014

We raised money for Children in Need by coming to school dressed as a ‘Hero’.  Pudsey came to visit our school.  Have a look at our pictures!

Eco Fortnight

Over the past two weeks our school have been having a whole school Eco Focus.  Classes have been involved in a wide range of Eco activities including improving school grounds, recycling, litter picking, planting and a whole lot more! Throughout this time we also welcomed parents and visitors to our classrooms to become involved in the children’s learning.  Thank you to all who attended.  To finish off our Eco fortnight we held a whole school assembly for parents on Friday 7th November to give classes the opportunity to share what they had been learning with the rest of the school.  Have a look at our Eco photo gallery below!

Football Coaching

Primary 2 and Primary 2/3 were lucky to receive a block of football coaching from North Lanarkshire Football Coaches, thanks to funding from Tesco Bank.  The children enjoyed working with Nicky and developed skills in working as a team, dribbling, ball control and especially enjoyed learning new football tricks.

Have a look through our pictures.  You may see some of these young players at Fir Park in the future.

Eco Week – Primary 2

eco primary 2

Primary 2 have been very busy during the Eco – Fortnight.

They have been reusing materials from the school grounds and building new items.  Mrs Barrie and Mrs McCall were delighted to receive new broomsticks, just in time for Halloween, made by reusing materials found in the gardens.

They enjoyed inviting parents into the school to see how they learn and also to help with sone of the tricky tasks.

Sports Day 2014

Thankfully the sun shone and we were able to have our Commonwealth Sport’s Day on Thursday 19th June.  The event ran smoothly and all children from primary 1 to 7 competed in teams from the Commonwealth.  The children participated in potted sports and then ran running races.  The results were:

First- New Zealand

Second- Bahamas and Botswana

Third – Australia

Well done to all the winners!

Bikeability 1

Over the past 6 weeks some children from primary 5 and 6 have been participating in North Lanarkshire’s Bikability 1 programme.  The children have developed their skills and confidence in cycling and enjoyed the fun weekly sessions. Pamela Ferrie from North Lanarkshire’s Road Safety Team  visited the school on the 10th June to carry out the assessments and all the children received a certificate and badge.  Well done everyone!

Primary 1 School Trip

On Thursday 5th June the primary 1 and 1/2 class went on their school trip to Kelburn Castle in Largs!  Lots of excited children and adults left a wet and windy Newarthill looking forward to a day of fun and adventure.  The children took part in a Gruffalo Hunt, visited the colourful Kelburn Castle, explored The Secret Garden and ran wild in the play barn!  A great day was had by all!  The highlight for the P1 class was meeting Nina from the TV programme, Nina and the Neurons!  Have a look at our fantastic pictures!!!

Basics Food Bank

Over the past few weeks the children have been collecting food for the charity Basics Food Bank within Lanarkshire.  David Shaw from the organisation attended the school on Friday 6th June to collect the items and thank the children personally for their support of the charity.  The collection was organised by the children from the Citizenship and Charity Committee.  Many thanks to all who contributed.
