We will be finishing of Video Data and moving on to Vector Graphics Data.
We will need to user our new usernames and passwords to create SVG and VRML Worlds. However, since all the machines have been reformatted we might find that the VRML plug in is not installed.
The last week of term went by in a bit of a blur and I never got the chance to put the video notes on the Blog, they are in the shared Google area though.
Remember to calculate the size of an uncompressed video file you need to first work out the size of a frame, the work out the number of frames.
The week after we get back you will have the second part of the prelim this will consist of two section II questions, one on Computer systems and one on Software development. The rest of the paper will be made up from Multimedia questions. To help you revise I have attached The multimedia sections from the 2007 – 2011 SQA papers.
I’m not sure if you caught this during the week, but I thought it would serve as a good discussion point on whether or not it is a Good display of Bitmap or Vector graphics.

As part of the multimedia course we take about the graphics card a lot. But what difference does a decent graphics card make?
Well a CPU can do one thing at a time, even multi core machine can only manage up to 8 things at a time. However, a GPU can mange hundreds of calculations at the same time. I wonder how we could demonstrate that?

OK so we are jumping the gun on this a little but I thought it merited a little post. I am writing this back in January (the day before your prelim) and I am guessing at where we will be today.
Screen resolutions for television have traditionally been described in terms of the vertical pixels, 576i, 720i, 720p, 1080p but the new standards are now describing them in the horizontal. So a 4K UHD (Ultra High Definition) screen has in the order of 4096 horizontal pixels this is twice the resolution of 1080p HDTV (High Definition TV).
So I was reading the list for the top past British innovations when I came across PCM and the Universal Machine. You have 4 days left to vote for your favourite, there really was only one choice for me in the past section. I guess you will need to wait till tomorrow to find out.
