We created some SVG files in class last week and as I explained at the time, the normal way to create these images is to use a graphics package and save the SVG file. Inkscape is a free vector graphics package, there are lots of tutorials for it on the internet. I enjoyed the gears tutorial, it was a good intro to the main tools and concepts.
