Nurturing North Ayrshire

Children and young people who have a good start in life have a host of advantages over those who don’t have such positive experiences at home. When nurture is present in a home or school setting, children tend to attend school more regularly, do better at school, and enjoy activities with friends. They are also significantly less likely to offend or experience problems with poor physical or mental health.

Nurture groups offer an opportunity to learn the early nurturing experiences some children and young people may lack or may have missed out on. Nurture groups provide children with the skills to do well at school, make friends, and deal more confidently and calmly with life’s challenges and adversities.

This approach is currently being implemented in 24 primary schools across North Ayrshire, and is funded through Scotland’s Attainment Challenge. We also have nurture provisions in each of our 9 secondary schools.

North Ayrshire’s Nurture approach is now live on the National Improvement Hub and can be accessed using the following link to the Education Scotland website.
