This session, we have chosen to join a handful of primary schools within North-Ayrshire, and indeed Scotland, in introducing the Reading Recovery Programme. It is a world-wide programme which allows one teacher to be trained to deliver a targeted intervention to some pupils in Primary 2.
The children who are part of the intervention receive daily individualised lessons, lasting 30 minutes, which aim to accelerate progress in reading, writing and phonics. Over time, it is our aim that other classes in the school can adopt aspects of Reading Recovery to help children requiring additional support in reading or writing.
