Primary 5/4

August 2019

In our class, we have been focusing on learning about angles. We have learned how many degrees are in certain angles. We made our own right angle checkers and went outside to the playground to see how many right angles we could find in our environment.

As well as looking at angles we have also been learning about directional language. We learned about angles of turn and used the new language to write directions from one area of the playground to another. We then swapped our directions and see if we could fold each other’s directions.

As a class we have been looking a writing instructions. We learned all about the features of instructions. We made sure to use bossy verbs in our writing. For one of the lessons we made healthy smoothies and wrote our own instructions for them.

In numeracy, we have been learning strategies to help us add and subtract. We have been using lots of active games to practise these strategies.

January 2020

Our class topic this term is ‘Scotland’. We have been learning lots about Scotland and learned a Scot’s poem which we performed to parents during our ‘Sharing the Learning’ event. We also made some shortbread for parents coming to the event.  We attended a Burn’s Brunch with the other classes where we listened to Scottish poems and sang some Scottish songs.

In numeracy we have been looking at fractions. We have been looking at how fractions are equal parts of a whole. We have created our own fraction wall of our own. As well as this, we have been looking at rounding on a number line. We created a large number line and had to round the number we had to the nearest ten.
