Primary 2

August

Primary 2 have been learning how to measure in metres and centimetres. We took our metre sticks outside to measure the length of objects in the playground. We estimated how long or tall the objects were first before using our measuring tools to check whether we were correct.

September

Primary 2 have been learning all about different fairytales. We used our knowledge to create our own fairytales, and worked in groups to create the characters. We shared materials and ideas with each other so make sure everyone made a different character for the fairytale. In science, we have been learning about living and non-living things. We identified things in the playground which were living and non-living and took pictures of them on the iPads.

October

This month we created backgrounds for our fairytale characters and performed our fairytale stories to the rest of the class. We used listening and talking skills to share ideas and take turns in performing parts of the story.

November

Primary 2 used the cooking stations to make quesadillas. We also learned about Big Ideas in Maths with Mrs Dunlop. We learned about money, number bonds to 10 and using counters for estimation and one-to-one correspondence.

December

Primary 2 learned how to insert shapes in a Word document and created Christmas trees using triangles and circles. We identified where different species of dinosaur came from around the world and presented our homework projects on our favourite species. We had a fantastic Christmas party and even had a special visitor!

January

Primary 2 started their new topic, Katie Morag, and used weaving skills to create tartan just like the pattern on Katie Morag’s skirt. For Chinese New year, we learned more about Chinese culture. We created lanterns, learned Chinese dancing, and took part in a new year tradition of writing down a wish to throw into the tree to see if it will come true. Sarah, the Family Learning worker, introduced our ‘Read, Write, Count’ bags and UWS students taught us about healthy eating.
