September 2019:
We have been exploring symmetry and asymmetry in our environment. This has taken us into our new outdoor learning areas where we have been creating symmetrical patterns using objects we see in our everyday school life. We then used our newly learned skills to find lines of symmetry in shapes and identify shapes that have no lines of symmetry.
October 2019:
This month, we were given a loan from Virgin Money to create a business. We began planning our business by creating a business name, logo and deciding on the products we are going to make and sell.
We carried out market research by visiting other classes and asking them a short survey to help us choose the most popular products. We then returned to our classes and created graphs using Microsoft Excel to identify the most popular products.
November 2019:
After analysing the data we collected last month, we began making the products that were the voted most popular: Christmas cookies, Christmas tree shaped decorations and snowman decorations.
December 2019:
This month, we have been lucky to have Mrs Goddard from the PLA come in to help us practise new multiplication and division strategies that will help us solve all sorts of different maths problems. We have been using concrete materials such as numicon and number lines.
January 2020:
This month we have been taking part in our “Technology Wednesday” where we practise computing technology and food technology. We have been learning how to make traditional Scottish recipes, which ties in with our topic, The Scottish Wars of Independence. We have been making oatcakes, stovies and shortbread.
