August –
The pupils have settled into Primary 1 life and are enjoying making new friends. We have been learning new sounds and forming these using a variety of materials. We are beginning to use our knowledge of phonics so make three letter words such as tap, sat and pat.
September –
Primary 1 pupils are enjoying working with the Primary 7 pupils. The Primary 7 pupils have been helping them with their numeracy and I.C.T skills by introducing them to Sumdog, an online game that help develop all aspects of numeracy. Primary 7 pupils also join Primary 1 on a Friday morning for our Buddy Reading Session. Primary 7 pupils are positive role models for our Primary 1 class and both classes are enjoying spending time together.
October –
In Primary 1 we have been exploring numbers to 20, looking and their formation and order. We have been concentrating on forwards and backwards counting and how numbers can be represented in different ways. Through active learning activities pupils have been introduced to mathematical language such as more than, less than and together.
November –
Primary 1 are taking part in a Numeracy Intervention called “The Big Idea”, they are enjoying working with Mrs Dunlop on a weekly basis where we take part in active numeracy lessons. This allows the children to develop a variety of skills within one lesson.
December –
This month in P.E. Primary 1 have been developing their gymnastics skills. They have been learning how to use large equipment safely and improving their jumping, rolling, climbing and balancing skills. They also had a visit from NHS staff who spoke to them about the importance of Hand Hygiene. This allowed the children to take a good look at how important it is to wash your hands carefully and for the correct time.
January –
In January Primary 1 have been focusing on Symmetry. They have enjoyed creating symmetrical pictures using different resources. Primary 1 can confidently sort items using the heading symmetrical and asymmetrical, they can justify their selections and by giving reasons for their decisions.
