About our School

Haysholm is a non-denominational school for pupils aged 5 – 18 with severe and complex additional support needs. We are part of the Irvine Royal Integrated Community School cluster. Our catchment area extends to Largs and the Garnock Valley.

Our current role is 24, 15 primary aged pupils and 9 secondary aged pupils, all of whom have an Individualised Educational Programme (IEP).

The accommodation is all on one level. All areas are fully accessible by everyone. The playground area has been developed for gross motor play. An established sensory garden and Eco-garden add to our pupils’ experience across the curriculum. Staff and pupils were delighted to be awarded their 4th green Eco-flag.

Our current staff team consists of teachers, Early years practitioner, an instructor and classroom assistants and we are further supported by visiting specialists – health professionals, speech and language therapists  and North Ayrshire sports coaches. Some of our pupils access inclusion links with associated schools and colleges as well as instruction in Riding for the Disabled.

We have a very supportive Parent Council and have close links with the community and local business.

  1. I am currently conducting research on Edgar Allan Poe’s connections with Ayrshire. I have a copy of a letter by R.M. Hogg, dated March of 1916 and written from Bank Street School. I know that Mr. Hogg was associated with the Burns Club, but I need a bit more information. Are you familiar with this individual? Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated. I have already contacted the Ayrshire library system and expect a reply soon. Thanks so much for your time and assistance. Michael G. McGlasson, Poe scholar USA
