Scottish Apprenticeship Week…

The seventh annual Scottish Apprenticeship Week runs from 6th  March to 10th  March – a nationwide celebration aimed at encouraging more employers to take on apprentices and to highlight the range of apprenticeships available in Moray and beyond.  The following link – Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2017 – provides further information.  Three events for young people parents and carers to meet apprentices, employers and training providers will soon take place:

The following events are happening in Moray:

Event 1: Meet the Employer Event – Wednesday, 8th March 2017

Venue: Conference Centre, Moray College UHI

Time: 10.00am to 3.00pm

Allocated Time:       10.00am to 11.00pm (Schools bringing students)

Students will have the opportunity to meet various different employers who have live apprenticeship vacancies.  So far the following organisations are attending:

8to8 Dental, SSE, AJ Engineering, Hendry Hydraulics, Robertson, Gateway Controls, CITB, MTD, Moray 1st Marine, Johnstons of Elgin, Boortmalts UK, Moray Offshore Renewables

An updated list of organisations attending will be provided nearer the time.  It is hoped 28 organisations will be attending.  All students are encouraged to bring copies of their CV to share with potential employers.  We also encourage the students to think about questions they want to ask employers.  All students will have the opportunity to speak with all organisations.

Event 2:          Parents, Guardians, Young Persons and Training Providers event

Venue:            Skills Development Scotland Office, High Street, Elgin

Time:              4 pm to 7 pm

Information and advice will be available to parents, carers and young people from local employers, training providers and SDS Careers Information Advice and Guidance service based in all schools across Moray.

There is no requirement to reserve a space – this is a drop in session, open to all.

Event 3:          Go Live

Venue:            Online at      https://www.facebook.com/DYWMoray/

Day/Time:

Day Time Business
Monday, 6th March 16:00 AJ Engineering
Tuesday, 7th March 16:00 Boortmalts

As part of the campaign, a free Facebook live event will be held during the week with apprentices currently working in Moray.  The live event will allow young people to see apprentices at work and direct questions directly to them about their experience and Modern Apprenticeships.

The event can be accessed by anyone who is thinking about an apprenticeship or looking for more information as long as they have access to a Facebook account.  The event will provide opportunities for young people, parents and carers to find out more about apprenticeships and the great career opportunities work based learning can offer.
