Description of Course
Through the study of contemporary international political and social issues, students will develop a knowledge and understanding of society. The course will foster and develop skills that can be applied to new situations and issues in a changing world.
The course units of study are:
- Democracy in the United Kingdom
- Social Issues in the UK – Crime and Law
- International Issues – World Power and the USA
- Assignment
Teaching involves skills based exercises, group discussions, whole class debate, the use of ICT and individual student research.
Homework
Two hours average per week, in the form of questions from textbooks, essays and skills based questions.
Assessment
The topics covered will be assessed through unit tests and homework. Students must demonstrate they have achieved the required standards in all areas of study, and submit an assignment on a topic of their choice. The assignment contributes to the overall course award.
