Glasgow Swim School – Teaching and Promoting Swimming in Glasgow Primary Schools
The Glasgow Swim School are a team of 6 PE teachers who are passionate about providing the young people in Glasgow Primary Schools the opportunity to develop their health and wellbeing through a 10 week block of compulsory swimming lessons.
The inclusive programme provides an invaluable experience for P5,6 or P7 pupils to develop : –
- water confidence – developing confidence to feel comfortable in water.
- water safety – developing knowledge of how to be safe around water.
- stroke technique – developing fluency and coordination.
- physical fitness – developing stamina, strength and core stability.
To allow accessibility for all we aim to provide one to one support in the water for pupils with additional needs.
An in-depth CfE Physical Education swimming assessment provides recognition of achievement for pupils, parents and schools at the end of the block.
We work closely with our partners at Glasgow Life to secure pool space across the city in Glasgow Life pools.
Pupils are given the opportunity to compete at our annual swimming festival at Tollcross International Swimming Centre. This experience allows pupils to represent their school and swim in a competitive environment.
Our partners in Glasgow Life have many opportunities for the young people of Glasgow to further develop their swimming in a Learn To Swim programme or in a club setting with the City of Glasgow Swim Team if your child wishes to progress further.
