Digital Progress

Term 4 update

Term 3

Our Digital leaders from Primary 7 have been working extremely hard to ensure that the iPads are given out and collected in each day. They have begun the process of selecting our future Digital Leaders from our current Primary 6 classes to take over for them next year.

Our school now has a rota in place to use the shared iPads each day. This ensures that each class has one full day of ICT to enhance their learning through technology.

Seesaw is being used throughout the school as a Learning Journal. You should be able to see all of your children’s assessment pieces and their feedback. We are currently using Seesaw for our homework too, however hopefully come August we will be back to jotters and paper depending on the pandemic.

We are currently evaluating our Digital Progress in school and looking ahead to following school year to select what we will focus on to make our school even better.

What a busy term for our digital progress in OLR!

Our P7 children all have their 1-1 iPads and they are showing great responsibility and creativity with them, along with their teachers!

Our shared iPads are now due into school early February. We have decided as a staff to have a timetable for our iPads for half a day each week with a whole class set, as well as this, we have enough iPads to keep 2 in each class. This will mean the children can be trained on using Seesaw to take their own photographs of their work and assessments, and also support children with their tasks in class.

I hope you enjoyed our Digital Nativity and our lovely Christmas pictures using the green screen.

5 Digital Leaders have been selected from Primary 7 to help run a ‘genius bar’ in terms 3 and 4. They will provide training to staff and pupils via teams, pre recorded videos and where appropriate from a 2m distance.

Our Digital Inclusion iPads have been set up and now allocated. We have managed to secure a device for the majority of families that requested one, who have no other devices at home. These were given out on the last day of term and the rest will be available to be collected when the school re-opens on the 6th January.

Seesaw is well embedded within each class now, with all classes using it successfully to upload homework and assessments. I have taken the feedback from the Seesaw survey sent out on the school app, and we will use this to improve how we are using Seesaw going forward.

Going forward into term 3, my focus will be on getting all classes up and running with Apple Classrooms, offering support with Seesaw, working with our P7 DLOLs, adding ‘how to’ videos to our school YouTube channel, and implementing digital progression booklets from P1 – P7 to enhance our digital curriculum.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Wilson

OLR Digital Strategy
•Seesaw – learning journals for all classes. An opportunity to share the insights of the classroom from the child and teacher’s perspective. A record of each child’s learning journey and assessments that can be saved and printed out.

•Seesaw – homework. To help stop the spread of Covid, we would like to mitigate the need for excess paper travelling between home and school. Homework will begin after September Weekend, class teachers will provide homework via Seesaw for children to complete over the week. Paper copies will be made available for children who do not have access to a device or WiFi.

•P7 1-1 I-pads – IPads are due into school at the end of October. These will be deployed to students by December. Each child and parent must watch the guidance for iPads on how to safely use them, and then sign the responsibility agreements before IPads are given out.
•P6 1-1 IPads – More Information due October ’20.
•P1-5 shared IPads – Due into school January ’21
•ELC IPads – awaiting more information
