P5/4 23-24 App Update Term 2
What a fantastic busy term we have had, there just do not seem to be enough hours in the week to squeeze everything in. The pupils of P5/4 again settled back into the school routine after the October Break and continued to show a very positive attitude to their learning.
In Literacy this term we have continued using the Big Cats reading resource (Non-Fiction) in weekly sessions in conjunction with Non-Chronological Report texts, Science, RE and digital texts. This has allowed us to develop our literal comprehension skills, summarising skills, context clues and identifying information skills which are transferable across the curriculum. Our Writing Genre this term was Non-Chronological Report (NCR) writing. We explored a range of NCR texts (Pie Corbett Faction, wildlife and Saints) and from this developed a series of Faction NCR’s based around Unicorns and Scottish wildlife. This engaging genre will continue into the first fortnight of Term 3 after which we will move onto a Fiction Novel and Imaginative Writing (Character & Setting). The Primary Four pupils all completed the NSNA Reading & Writing Assessments for the Scottish Government in December.
In Numeracy this term we have focused on the four processes: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. These concepts are embedded through the use of Concrete resources, Pictorial methods (Including Digital) and exposure to a range of strategies to allow increased depth to their understanding. All pupils have enjoyed success in Using think boards to show a range of strategies. We continue to use Bar Models, Number Lines, Partitioning, Grid Multiplication, Division Algorithm and application of Times Tables. Term 3 will see us apply our Number and four process work to Fractions, Decimals, Percentages, Time and Money. The Primary Four pupils all completed the NSNA Numeracy Assessments for the Scottish Government in December.
RE & Health and Well-being consisted of lessons on Remembrance and Lives of Saints, and in Jigsaw the pupil’s completed lessons on Celebrating Differences which focused on Anti Bullying, Culture, Online safety and Childrens Rights and responsibilities. This allowed us to continue our Class Charter with the theme of “Play the Game.”
Our IDL topic this term is Scotland- Our Wildlife-Science. This allowed a lot of research and discussion to take place. The pupils enjoyed exploring and discussing energy, food chains, extinction and biodiversity. This topic will continue in the first two weeks of January after which we will start our History Topic- The Romans.
Primary 5/4 have continued their Eco-Committee work and presented at multiple whole school assemblies using class produced videos and keynote presentation. Their letters to local councillors have resulted in a clear recycling policy for our school and council operatives to adhere to. We have made great progress in our Action Plan.
Roll on Term 3!
