Back to School for P4-7

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are really looking forward to welcoming the rest of the children back to school on Monday. We all know how challenging this last year has been and you’re not alone if you’ve found the current lockdown the hardest one yet. I am sure you will all be glad to hand over the reins for home learning back to their teacher!

If you borrowed a school iPad to support home learning, please ensure that your child returns this to school with any school charger cables or plugs on Monday. I hope these have been useful during this time.

Breakfast Club and After School Care will all resume service on Monday. Please follow your usual arrangements.

Many thanks to everyone who has donated school uniform so far. This has been especially helpful this week as we have had a lot of muddy children enjoying their outdoor learning in some challenging weather!

It is difficult to get school uniform in the shops at the moment due to high demand and limited supply so if you do need anything, for whatever reason, please get in touch with us as we may have something suitable available.

The following advice is from parentclub.scot –
The news that all children are returning to school will probably have been a huge relief, but there is a risk that it could cause an increase in people getting the virus. Here are 5 important things you can do to make sure this doesn’t happen and to help our nurseries and schools stay open.

  1. Wear your face covering at all times when you are dropping your children at nursery or school and picking them up.
  2. Only one parent at a time should do drop offs and pickups.
  3. Stay 2 metres from other parents at the gates and avoid travelling to and from school in groups with others.
  4. Don’t car share with other households and limit using public transport if you can.
  5. Look out for symptoms at home and follow Test and Protect guidance if anyone shows any signs of COVID.

Schools update – January 2021

Schools update – January 2021

Please find attached a letter from the Director of Education with information about the return to school for pupils in January.

Director of Education 22nd Dec update

On Thursday 7 and Friday 8 January we will be open to offer childcare to the children of keyworkers only.

Keyworker Clarification

Where a parent is able to work from home then they should do so and support their child’s learning. Parents and carers should be aware that other family members, such as grandparents can provide childcare.

Keyworkers:

  •  Health and Care workers directly supporting COVID response, and associated staff; Health and Care workers supporting life threatening emergency work, as well as critical primary and community care provision; Energy suppliers (small numbers identified as top priority already); staff providing childcare/learning.
  • All other Health and Care workers, and wider public sector workers providing emergency/critical welfare services (for example: fire, police, prisons, social workers), as well as those supporting our Critical National Infrastructure, without whom serious damage to the welfare of the people of Scotland could be caused.
  • All workers (private, public or third sector) without whom there could be a significant impact on Scotland (but where the response to COVID-19, or the ability to perform essential tasks to keep the country running, would not be severely compromised).

These are the Scottish Government definitions issued in March 2020.

All other children will effectively have an extended holiday until 11 January 2021.  Please note that where a parent is able to work from home then they should do so and support their child’s learning.  Parents and carers should also be aware that other family members, such as grandparents can provide childcare.

From Monday 11th January, learning will be online for pupils. Further information about this will be provided when we return to school.

We sincerely hope that these measures are going to be short term in an effort to reduce the transmission of the virus and keep everyone safe. I thank you again for your patience and understanding during these difficult times.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy holiday.

Take care and stay safe,

Colette Haddock

Update from Maureen McKenna – Director of Education

Maureen McKenna’s message on Glasgow Times

In the Glasgow Times today, Maureen McKenna posted some advice for parents. Here is what she said:

“We find ourselves in such extraordinary circumstances at the moment and I don’t want parents and carers to feel that they need to recreate the classroom in their kitchen.

“Our children and young people can be learning in so many different ways and as part of everyday life – while the schools are closed, families should embrace active learning – while doing household chores, out on their daily walk, reading a book or watching a film together and by using the educational programmes relaunched by the BBC this week.

“This is not a competition as to which mum, dad or carer can be the most imaginative teacher – concentrate on what’s achievable to meet your family needs and working from home arrangements.

“That’s why we’ve partnered with the Glasgow Times to publish a series of features with ideas on how you can help your children learn and have some fun too.

“I also know that our school staff are going to great lengths to arrange work remotely for their pupils – sending this either digitally or through the post to help parents and carers with lesson packs.

“I’m delighted to see so many of our education staff and schools engaging via social media with their school communities and to keep spirits up.

“Please don’t worry – just do what you can – we are all in this together and we will come back stronger as a result.”
