COP26 Volunteer Programme

The UK will host the international summit at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow on 1 – 12 November 2021 and Glasgow City Council is looking for a team of around 1000 friendly, outgoing and enthusiastic volunteers to support the staging of this globally significant event.

Anyone interested in volunteering is invited to step forward and submit their application at www.ukcop26.org/volunteer. Applications are open now until Wednesday, 31 March.

These vital climate talks are expected to bring together the largest gathering of heads of state ever hosted in the UK, alongside climate experts and campaigners, to agree coordinated action to tackle the climate emergency.

A variety of volunteer roles will be available in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, including providing information on the conference and the venues, supporting delegates staying in and travelling around the city, and promoting the best of what Glasgow and Scotland has to offer.

S1-S3 Pupil and Parent/ Carer Medicine Information Event

An Introduction to Medicine

WAMGCC in collaboration with the charity You Can be a Doctor and a number of other organisations we are hosting an online information evening for pupils in S1-3 and their parents who are thinking about studying medicine or simply interested in finding out more about the career.

Join us for an evening of presentations from consultant doctors, GPs, medical students, and more to learn about what it’s like to be a doctor and how you can get there. This evening is intended for any pupil in S1 – S3 at a Scottish state school who is thinking about becoming a doctor, is interested in science, or who has a passion for looking after others. We also welcome parents of any budding doctors! The talks will be packed with information but we will also have an open text chat that pupils (and parents) can use to ask questions and chat directly to doctors and medical students. As work experience is difficult to find at the moment this session is sure to provide a valuable opportunity for pupils to explore the possibilities that being a doctor can offer them!

The event is to be held on Tuesday December 15th. 7-9pm. A recording will also go online on the charity’s YouTube channel afterwards. The event is entirely free but to register for an access code please visit:

S3- Social Media- Fake News Project

We are delighted to be working with the University of Glasgow to create and design a project on helping young people to spot fake news, photoshopped images, etc.

This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils and will look fantastic on future university, college or employment applications.

Fake news reaches more people and spreads more quickly than the truth and is believed around 75% of the time.  Are you interested in working with academics and Instagram influencers to create a programme to teach young people about fake news? If so, please consider joining our team. We will ask you to come along to some meetings to discuss what topics you think should be covered in the programme (e.g. fake news, spotting photoshop, deepfakes) and helping us design some activities to explore the topics.  We will then package up the programme and it will be delivered in your school and other schools across the UK.  You will develop skills like teamwork and research and have the opportunity to shape a national level project

We are looking for a group of S3 pupils to be involved in this project. If you are interested please contact Mr Richardson on gw12richardsonjack@glow.sch.uk
