Dear Parent/Carer,

As you will be aware the advice around wearing facemasks is changing and from Monday 31st we need everyone (except those with exemptions) to wear a mask in those busy areas. Many pupils are already wearing them when moving around school and you may have seen picture we shared on Twitter last week of staff wearing them as they move around school.  Others will be used to wearing them on public transport or in local shops. We will go over the advice again during registration classes tomorrow and produce some resources for our website. Pupil Support staff will also have a small supply of masks for next week in case any pupil requires one.

Please read the letter below for important information about the full-time return to school for all pupils.

Please see attached for information on the new start and finish times for pupils as well as times for interval and lunch. Time has been built in to allow pupils to move around the school. School begins slightly earlier for S1-S3 pupils and slightly later for S4-S6 pupils. There will be no MTA for the time being and period 5 on Fridays will finish a little earlier than last year to allow for the earlier start in the mornings. As far as possible, pupils are asked not to come to school too early but to stick to the times outlined.

S5 Prelim Examinations

Dear Parent / Carer,

Your child will be undertaking their S5 Prelim Exams from Monday 19^th November – Tuesday 27^th November.  Exam timetables have been issued.  Your child should only attend school on the days and times of their exams.  In order to make sure that these exams run smoothly it is important that all pupils arrive early for their exams in order to be registered. Pupils should register in the assembly hall 30 minutes before the beginning of each exam. Please see table below.

It is vital that we have 100% attendance at these exams and there will be text message reminders going out the day before each exam to ensure all pupils attend on time. In order to help prepare your child for their prelims we have put in place a mini support package during PSE time, where pupils have had input on study skills, preparing for exams and exam motivation.  It is also vital that your child is studying at home and preparing for these exams.  If you have any questions regarding the prelim exams please contact me on 0141 582 0100 or sneil@hillheadhigh.glasgow.sch.uk

Oxford and Cambridge Explained and Student Life

These sessions are mainly aimed at S5 students, but can also be helpful for younger years considering Oxford or Cambridge. We warmly encourage parents to attend too.

The Oxford and Cambridge Explained presentation covers all aspects of student life and the admissions process for the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, including course choice, the college system, tutorial teaching, admissions tests and interviews. We aim to leave students feeling much better informed about what applying to, and studying at, Oxford or Cambridge would involve, as well as to break down any misconceptions about that might deter students from making an application. The sessions will be delivered by Undergraduate Admissions & Outreach staff from both universities and where possible supported by current students who will share their experiences.
