This week in P6 we were out and about a lot. In PE we finished off our 6 weeks of hockey with some fantastic matches. Competition is a great way to build confidence and develop team building skills.
To marry up with this week’s Outdoor Learning theme, we had a quick introduction to Orienteering. It’s a great way to run about and become more aware of the environment around the school.
This is one of my favourite times of the year. There’s a whole school focus on Outdoor Learning. We will be outside at some point every day so please ensure appropriate clothing is provide. It really helps with pupil engagement and fun if they are comfortable, warm and dry outdoors. Stay tuned for more amazing photos of our activities.
Just a reminder that P6 will be having a non-uniform day tomorrow as part of the MacMillan Coffee Morning. We will also be going on a “hike” around the perimeter of the school grounds as part of our class’ walking the West Highland. If possible, children should bring in a rucksack, snack and drink so we can recreate a real hike!
thank you!

Hi everyone, hope you’re all well. Thankfully we had some much needed sunshine this week which meant we were able to have lots of opportunities to take our learning outdoors. Fingers crossed it continues into next week and the September weekend holiday!
In Numeracy we focused on revising our times tables and extending it to include multiplication of 4 digit numbers by 1 digit number. Make sure you ask your child to keep practicing at home either on Sumdog or jus by writing their own sums.
Costa Rica was our country of choice for Guided Reading. It was very interesting finding out about their Independence Day celebrations.
For homework, each pupil was asked to complete their 500 word story including themselves as the main character. I’ve been very impressed by the originality and use of exciting language in the texts.
Our topic has now evolved into each pupil being part of family in a small village called Catburg, near a city in the mountains called Yoronto. Each family created their own mime to show how they help the local environment.
Just a reminder that the September weekend means that children will be off school on Friday 25th and Monday 28th September. Take care and have a great week.

Any problems, just let me know.

Have a look at the attached file to see exactly what we’ll be up to in P6 this term.
Hello, lovely to see you again!
This week we had focus on Iceland for our Guided Reading. It’s amazing just how different each country has been so far and we’ve not even left Europe yet!
In numeracy we looked at subtraction and the different strategies we can use from Glasgow Counts. It’s been fun to get back into it after 5 months, some pupils even thought they’d forgotten how to do subtraction.
We had loads of fun continuing on with our topic. As each session unfolds so we find out more about our place in the world and the effect we all have on a rapidly changing climate. So far we have founded our village, city and twinned exotic island. Each group used their research and creativity skills to develop each aspect of our fictional community. Here are some photos of the astounding work.
The whole school focus this week was Mental Health. A hugely important aspect of all our lives, no matter our age. I was really taken aback by the maturity in which P6 openly discussed their experiences and feelings and just how supportive they are of each other. It’s a really special class. As part of learning we used art to communicate how we feel. See below for just some of the amazing work produced.
It’s been great having an almost full class again. There’s been a tremendous buzz of excitement around P6 as everyone continues to get to know each other and remember how much fun St Albert’s is.
We had an introduction to what our topic is going be for term 1. There will be different approach to how it’s normally, it’s really exciting as it’s brand new to me too. Already the pupils are producing amazing pieces of week. Groups have been allocated and have produced high quality short films about Climate Change, the overarching theme of our topic. When the films are finished I’ll post some here. For more info on how the topic will look, click on the link below.

Here are some photos of the work we’ve been doing using iPads.
In Numeracy we focused on revision of how to use the Glasgow Counts strategy of “Partitioning”. Make sure you ask your child at home and see if they can explain it to you!
In literacy, we found out about Italian food for our Guided Reading. The only problem was that it made everyone desperate to eat pizza and ice cream!
This week’s whole school focus will be on Mental Health and the important role it plays throughout our lives.
Hello, lovely to see you again! Although the past week or so has been one that has changed on a daily basis I’m still amazed by the resilience and positive attitude of everyone in P6. Huge credit is due to every last one!
Some important information.
Last week we focused on 5 digit numbers, rounding, estimation and place value in numeracy. We practised our number lines outdoors. Our topic for Guided Reading was Greece.
Here are some photos from last week’s fun.
I learned an important lesson last week, white boards and white board pens don’t work in the rain. I’ll need to have a rethink for the next time…..
