WB 19/10/20

A huge welcome back to P6 after the October break.  It was lovely to see all the pupils return to St Albert’s with smiles on their faces.

This week there was a whole school focus on Black History.  It is a very important and powerful subject that certainly brought out the very best in class through discussion, reading, writing and film making.  The class really engaged with all the activities, including the home task of researching famous black individuals who have changed history for the better.  Rosa Parks was our chosen person and as we immersed ourselves in the story we uncovered many important aspects as we compared society 60 years ago to now.  Remember to ask your children what differences and similarities there are.

Here are some of the home research examples.

As we investigated further into the amazing story of Rosa Parks, we began to think about how each character may have felt and why they acted the way they did.  Empathy is important in understanding and changing behaviour and beliefs.

Using all our learning we worked in groups to recreate the main events of the story through drama.  We used our filming and editing skills to produce these amazing videos.  Now we are considering what makes a good film for people to watch.  Thinking about camera angles, filters and background music can really enhance our films.
