Day 14 work

Well what a busy, busy, busy day that was!

New learning packs

I was in school today as you all know, printing out and sorting your new packs of work. It was like a problem solving puzzle sorting everything out but I got there eventually!

All your home learning packs are now complete and these will keep you buy for the next couple of weeks, along with the fun activities you all requested individually – colouring pages, word-searches, calendars, crosswords etc.

Those of you who had already earned 10 points I phoned and you chose your prizes from the box! Well done again 🙂

Some of you already have your new packs as I dropped a few off on the way home. So did Mr Stewart and he is going to drop of the rest tomorrow.

It was very very hard to see you Aiyub, Subhan and Kayden without being able to give you a BIG hug! But SO lovely to see you in real life ♥

Your work

Subhan made a great Leaning Tower of Pillows (which he then collapsed on!), did some work on spelling, worked out some subtraction problems and practiced handwriting for the letter l and L.

Kit doing his maths on Sumdog, looking extremely happy doing his reading, some great teamwork with Freddie to create his Leaning Tower of Pillows and he then needed to nap on them after being so busy! He also researched 2 facts about the Leaning Tower of Pisa – It started to lean when it was being built in the 12th century and they seem to be unsure who the real architect really is.

Hector was learning outside this morning studying and drawing some trees and flowers and having a run at the bowling green, he then worked together with his siblings to create their great  Leaning Tower of Pillows  and then recorded some super interesting facts he learned about the Leaning Tower of Pisa in a book called ‘Mistakes that worked’

Mariam was busy reading her new book on the Bug Club website

Aiyub built this very cool car which he won from the prize box!

Points

Remember to be sending me photos of your learning and what you are up to at home each day. The more photos I get the more likely you are to be able to win points  and be able to choose a prize!

A reminder that tomorrow (Friday) up until 3pm is your last chance to win the Sumdog points this week  and I will also be giving out a point for Bug Club so try to finish your book online and maybe do some of the quizzes and games there are there.

Home School Day 14

Good morning Class 2 ♥

I have been doing some building this morning…

Have a watch of today’s video to see what I’ve been up to 🙂

https://youtu.be/UG2n_wBccmw

You could research 2 facts about the famous building in the video and send them to me with your picture this afternoon.

Here is my Leaning tower of Pillows. I was trying very hard to get onto the bed for the photo without causing it to lean and wobble and fall over! 🙂

Looking forward to seeing your entries this afternoon 🙂

Day 13 work

Video calls

I spoke to the rest of you today and remembered photos again, woohoo! 🙂 You were all looking lovely ♥ Sorry for my croaky voice, I will need to rest it and not talk at all tonight I think!

Lots of you have been having group chats on WhatsApp video this week which is fab! I love these photos you have sent me of you catching up with your friends 🙂

Your work

Thank you to everyone who is sending photos of your work and what you’re getting up to, they’re really great to see and make me feel much happier 🙂

Subhan was out on his trampoline getting some exercise in the sun, he was first to crack the PATHS code, he did some phonics spelling work, some handwriting, some maths problems and went to the park.

Hector was powering through his phonics spelling workbook yesterday and today, he cracked the code and then created his own code to write secret messages to his sister Molly, completed his maths work on calendars, learned about coding and a very interesting place called Bletchley Park and was up late last night to see the Elon Musk satellites and the meteor showers.

Kit was working on Sumdog again today for maths, wrote the second part of The History of Disney, watched ‘Back in time for the corner shop’ to learn about social history and did some drawing.

Blog comments

Remember to look at the comments on the blog posts. Some of your friends have left you messages that you can reply to!

I have been letting you know through the week when you earn points by sending videos of me giving them to you. You have been getting them as normal for sending any photos of work, completing certain tasks that I set on the blog and for extra special pieces of work.

Here is how the chart looks just now.

Remember the Sumdog points to be awarded on Friday at 3pm, so login and play some games to try and win that point!

Day 11 work

Lots of you have been busy getting back to work today, well done! 🙂

Today I have given everyone a point who has sent me photos/recordings of their work or their holiday photos, a point to everyone who logged on successfully to Bug Club and a point to those of you who managed to write your news.

I’m sending you videos of me giving you your points as I do it to keep track, so if you think you need a point for something and I haven’t sent you a video please let me know!

Holiday photos & videos

Hector’s holiday news photos 🙂 He was in his garden a lot, cut and whittled a big stick into a wizard’s staff, played Top Trumps, bounced on the trampoline, did a virtual Covid19 run with his dad over 24hours in the park, cycled to Pollok park with mum going on mountain bike paths, had a chalk walk and left messgaes outside Kit and Aiyub’s houses and played computer games online with Aiyub.

Subhan sent some videos from his holiday to share with you 🙂

Kit’s holiday news photos 🙂  He made some slow cooker fudge and home made wraps, played Trivial Pursuit, did some indoor sunbathing, did lots of scooting and cycling, did and experiment using fingerprints, tried out 3 different types of jam, completed the Pepsi challenge, planted seeds, had a lovely surprise visit from their friends that they spotted out of their window and went walking in the rain and the sun.

Your work

Hector watched ‘Some Good News’ and helped his sister with a Magic Cauldron maths game – it looks fun!

Subhan wrote this excellent & very long holiday news, drew a cool picture of the evil Joker, did some phonics work, practiced writing the letter i and I and worked on writing out the patterns for the 13 and 14 times tables.

Aiyub logged onto Bug Club and then sent me voice recordings of him reading his new book! I then sent a video back with some help on some of the trickier words like how to say them and what they mean, this was a great new way of ‘doing reading’!

Kit did a reading comprehension activity he had from before the holiday, practiced some maths on Sumdog and wrote his holiday news, with some nice neat writing!

Kayden worked very hard to finally login to Bug Club and was rightly very pleased with himself when he got in! He was also concentrating hard on Sumdog doing some maths.

I’ve not had any photos yet but Huzaifa and Ivo also managed to log into their Bug Club account, so well done to them too!

Fantastic first day back Class 2, I am very proud as always 🙂

Miss Hewitt’s Easter holiday news :)

So, I was not able to go home to Harris ♥ as I would normally do this Easter and that was hard but I was still able to do some things I like here in Glasgow. Here is some of what I got up to 🙂

On the first Monday of the holidays I wrote some Easter cards to you all and then went to post them while I went for my outdoor exercise time.

In your cards I said you could send me a photo of you with your card when it arrived so I would know it had made it to you safely and lots of you did. Thanks so much for the photos, it was lovely seeing your smiley faces 🙂

I also received some lovely photos of beautiful Easter drawings from Kit and Mariam. Thank you, I loved them ♥

One thing I love doing but often don’t have time for is jigsaws. I always do them when I’m relaxing at home in Harris on holiday, with my dad who loves them too, and I was missing that lots so did some Disney ones here in Glasgow which was very relaxing and helped cheer me up a bit.

During the holidays it was supposed to be one of my friend’s hen night (this is a night that ladies sometimes have to celebrate with their friends before they get married). My friend Emma had an online hen night instead and we all had a zoom party and played lots of games online instead of together in person. It as lots of fun and we all made flower crowns just like we were going to on the day. I’m sure you can guess what colour flowers I used for my crown 🙂

Another thing that I love doing, but don’t do enough of, is reading. I read lots of good books over the holiday. I also did some colouring in which I find very relaxing, just like doing a jigsaw or reading a book.

One of my friends had bought me a face mask as part of my birthday present that I hadn’t used yet, so I had a relaxing pampering day using this and doing my nails. The mask got very hard as it dried and started to crack! Someone you may recognise joined in with the pampering face mask…!

I tried to not watch too much TV and films, although I did enjoy this on some lazier pyjama days! Some nights Murdo and I played cards which was great fun. I will have to bring in my Harry Potter cards when we get back to Class 2 for you to have a turn, but I warn you I’m very good at Rummy 🙂

So there is a snapshot of my Easter holidays news. I can’t wait to hear all about yours! 🙂

Easter holidays!

I know some of you are feeling a variety of uncomfortable feelings about the Easter holiday as it is going to be so different to normal. It is OK to feel like that and lots of people do feel like that just now, adults as well as children.

However, we talk about differences a lot in Class 2 and we know that different does not mean bad, and in fact is a really good thing.  🙂

Here is a little holiday message from me to you –

https://youtu.be/b8yKRgE-pjQ

Social stories

I have gathered some social stories which help explain why, although it may be frustrating, especially on our holidays, it’s important to stay indoors as much as possible over the next 2 weeks.

A short one page social story about favourite places being closed and staying home

A social story about the Easter Holidays being different this year and what you can and can’t do

A PATHS story with things you can still do and about the importance of talking about your feelings

Good+Days+and+Bad+Days+During+Lockdown+V1

This is a wordless story book about good and bad days during lockdown. There are some short stories at the end of the book explaining each set of pictures but these are good visuals to discuss

Some activities for the Easter holidays

The most important thing to do in the holidays is rest. It has been a tricky few weeks adjusting to lots of changes so your body will want to rest and relax. Mine certainly does 🙂

You can still do all your favourite inside activities like watching movies, reading, playing games, singing, dancing, drawing etc.

I have found a few things you may want to try to keep you busy too.

Scavenger hunts

Firstly some scavenger hunts as you all enjoyed the one earlier this week so much!

I will be having a go at some of these too, like looking for the outdoor things when I go outside for exercise and I’m looking forward to having time to read lots of books : )

 Art activities

I know you all love art and doing painting and colouring in are really relaxing activities. Here are a few other art ideas you could try –

Using cotton buds to make a dot design or a pattern like we have done before in Class 2

Using your old egg box, and straws if you have any, to make some lovely Spring flowers

Or use your egg boxes to make some spring animals!

Some other ways you could make some spring flowers with things you maybe have in your house

On the sunny days you can try some shadow art (I particularly like the Lion King one!)

You can try some chalk art outside on your pavement when you have your daily time outside

Just like Hector and his family did last weekend 🙂

Science experiments

Lots of you really enjoy doing experiments both in school and at home, so here are some experiments you can try in your house if you have permission from your parents. **Some will require an adult to help keep you safe.**

Calming activities

It is likely we will all feel sad or angry at some point over the holiday and remember all these feelings are OK, even though they are uncomfortable.

We discuss feelings lots on the Class 2 couch and can almost always make things better by problem solving together using our PATHS skills , so try to do this at home too.

Here are some different things you could try to help you feel calm or discuss your feelings.

What ever you do, please enjoy the break, do things you love, stay safe and take loads of photos for me to see when school starts back on Monday 20th April. Looking forward to seeing you all already : )

Lots of love

Miss Hewitt
