Trip to Edinburgh Zoo

On Thursday St Albert’s went on a whole school trip to the zoo!

It was a very busy day including games on the bus on the way there, spotting different animals in the enclosures,  finding out interesting facts about the animals, getting lots of exercise walking up the hills, fun time in the play park, using our money skills to buy souvenirs in the gift shop and some sleepy people on the bus home!

If you have any of your own photos, those of you that went off to explore by yourself, please share them in the comments 🙂

Our learning this week 20.9.19

This week we have been learning  –

  • past and present tense verbs
  • predicting what is going to happen in a story
  • the ee phonic sound
  • about the place value of numbers
  • partitioning numbers
  • passing while dribbling, defending and attacking  in basketball
  • what children’s rights are
  • how to write u and U
  • how to solve problems using the 3 steps for calming down

These were our initial thoughts on what Children’s Rights are. We will be working on this topic until the end of term and build our knowledge on this topic.

Our ee words

We worked in pairs to think about the similarities and differences we all have and took some photos of those we noted down

Here are a note of some of the differences and similarities we discussed. Some similarities and differences we can see but others are invisible.

Dribbling and shooting practice on the MUGA at P.E

Some of our ie words

Some amazing climbing skills on show at Linn Park this week!

Our learning this week 6.9.19

This week we have been learning –

  • spotting mistakes in sentences
  • writing sentences of our own remembering the 4 key features
  • telling the time on analogue and digital clocks
  • adding ten to a number
  • totalling coins to pay for items
  • about the connections the brain makes when we make mistakes
  • defending in basketball
  • the ‘oa’ diagraph
  • about being good winners
  • working out change when paying with different coins
  • the correct formation for the letter j
  • painting with watercolour paints

We thought a bout a recent mistake we had made and how this made us feel (silly, sad, angry, ok, ridiculous, embarrassed), then scrunched it up and threw it away! When we collected our crumpled piece of paper and started colouring all the lines we had made we realised this looked like a brain. This is what happens when we make a mistake – our brain makes lots of connections and helps our brain grow.

We corrected missed capitals, capitals in the wrong place, missing full stops, missing words and separated squashed words with finger spaces to make these sentences correct.

Our mental maths record 🙂

Our oa phonics words we found in the story. Ivo completed his first phonics sentence this week and was very proud 🙂

Hector was enjoying our money work this week and did an amazing amount of adding to total every single item in our shop! Well done, Hector 🙂

Our first karate session with David this year
